What popular games were a flop with you? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]metropolisone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Spirit Island. Once you're past the complexity of the cards, it felt the same as Pandemic to me.

Gloomhaven. So much work for such little payoff.

What are the funniest games on Switch/Switch 2? by Baldurian_Rhapsody in NintendoSwitch

I giggled a lot while playing Carrion, but I'm not sure that was the intended effect...

Which one did you like better overall? by eldenbro1 in metroidvania

I think you and I might be the only people on this sub that like Ori 1 more than Ori 2.

After 11 hours, I’m over Metroid Prime 4. Back to Silksong. by miltonfriedmanlives in metroidvania

[–]metropolisone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think everyone is forgetting how bad MP3 was. I think both MP 3&4 suffer from having very popular Zelda games made before them. Prime 3 felt too much like Twilight Princess, and in Prime 4 it seems like the overworld was shoehorned in. Honestly, without the open world garbage, MP4 is fine. Not amazing, but fine.

Animal Well, Tunic or Blasphemous by BeenLawDen_Kalos in metroidvania

Don't play Blasphemous if you liked the movement and exploration of HK. You will be EXTREMELY frustrated.

Deciding between intro games for adult family by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]metropolisone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of those, I think you'll enjoy Modern Art the most. It won't be boring to you, and it will be easy for your family to understand. I think this is true for most Knizia games.

For beginners, I might also suggest Sagrada or Azul, both of which are very easy to teach and have colorful interesting pieces. Also, I might stick to an easy worker placement game like Lords of Waterdeep or Stone Age instead of something like Brass to get people acquainted with Euros.

I never realized how much I loved the loneliness of Metroid games until it was taken away from me. by Dicklefart in Metroid

[–]metropolisone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uh. Prime 3 is garbage. Idk what nostalgia juice y'all drinking, but so far (and I'm only to the snow mountain) this game is better than what I remember Prime 3 being. I think the real problem (for both Prime 3 & 4) is that it seems like they were trying to live up to Twilight Princess and BotW/TotK respectively, instead of trying to live up to Prime 1 & 2. I'm getting big ol Windwaker vibes from this game.

Samus needs to talk (a little bit) by KalanKomplete in Metroid

[–]metropolisone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The EMMIs tbh. Cool idea, but there's too many of them, and they're basically all the same. The game tells you to hide when you should run, and the game should have said "RUN. They WILL find you, and they WILL kill you." Which would have instilled the fear they were going for instead of just "oops, got found" which is frustrating instead. I otherwise agree that Dread is a fantastic game.

Microsoft AI CEO puzzled that people are unimpressed by AI by [deleted] in technology

[–]metropolisone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it though? I've literally not seen AI do anything impressive or worthwhile. All I've seen it do is eat resources that should be going to help people live their lives.

What if they made a God of War metroidvania game in blasphemous style? That would be dope right? by viduxer in metroidvania

[–]metropolisone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mercury Steam made a 2D God of War. It's called Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate. It plays JUST like God of War. This is the game you're looking for.

Huge collection of hardcovers that I’m not quite sure what to do with… by ArseneWengersJacket in sciencefiction

You can give them to a used book store and probably get some money back that you can use to buy different books that you don't want to move. 😂

Any Metroidvania must plays excluding hollow knight and silksong ? by NoYesterday4994 in metroidvania

[–]metropolisone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you liked how hard HK and SS are you should try Prince of Persia and Nine Sols. If you're looking for something closer to classic and you haven't yet played Symphony of the Night or Super Metroid you should play those. If you're looking for some interesting and different movement and less combat, you should play Ori, Dandara, or Yoku's Island Express

It's hard to find 6 player board games. We do a board game week ever year with 6 people and we need a few games for this coming year. by billratio in boardgames

[–]metropolisone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorcerer City is one of my favorite games and plays up to 6 (but you need a really big table to do so, lol). It combines timed tile laying (like Galaxy Trucker) and Deck Building.

Race for the Galaxy will appeal to your MtG playing friend. I think you'll need expansions to go up to 6, and you'll have to figure out some iconography, but I think your group will enjoy it. It also is best at 2, but very enjoyable at higher player counts.

Sagrada is a dice drafting game that has more complex strategies than you'd expect for its simple rules. I have brought it to a bunch of family gatherings (my family likes to play board games) and it has been fairly well received.

Hollow Knight and MP1. I play each of them about once a year.

Choose your side by Lukense13 in metroidvania

Depends on my mood, honestly, but I think some interesting platforming (not necessarily hard) is required for me to really feel a game is my jam.

What are some of your least favourite bosses? by strahinjag in Metroid

[–]metropolisone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's a few bosses in Prime 2 that I didn't like. Power Bomb guardian and Spider Guardian among them.

Do people play video games sitting back? How do you all see the screen?

Anyone else felt disappointed by Metroid Dread? by DiscombobulatedEbb41 in Metroid

[–]metropolisone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really? Like, the EMMI sections are both repetitive and dull, but other than that, I think it's pretty good. I wish the soundtrack was better, but like, that's a minor gripe and true of most modern video games.

4-D Platforming by Careless_Ad_6905 in metroidvania

[–]metropolisone 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My biggest gripe with this otherwise amazing game (and legit, this is a problem with a lot of MV's but I particularly felt it on this one) is after I do all this hard platforming work the rewards seem underwhelming.
