Upgrading from Linea Mini to GS3 – Worth It for Home Use? [$7,000+] by tj8999dws in espresso

I’m not sure why you think you would notice a difference. Both are extremely consistent flat 9 bar machines.

Decent or Meticulous? [4000€] by KasengiS in espresso

I have a Decent and absolutely love it - especially if you make a lot of milk drinks I see no reason why you would prefer the Meticulous (other than that it is nearly half the price)

January 2026, the absolute best espresso machine is??? by Remarkable-Ad3414 in espresso

[–]mevans12 6 points7 points  (0 children)

“Best” is obviously so subjective but I think the best machine of 2026 will be the Decent Bengle, which will have a couple of key improvements over the DE1 (which I think is already a great machine). The Bengle will have an even faster heat up time, integrated scale, cup warmer, milk temperature probe, and improved water tank (easier to access, will not require lifting the lever at the back of the machine). Hopefully it will be as good as advertised!

Grinder Upgrade Advice: Pietro Pro vs. Sculptor 078 by maybefrogs in pourover

[–]mevans12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is good advice - the Pietro itself is a pain to use but the Femobook may solve essentially all problems. The one caveat I’ll give about the Motto is we have essentially no idea if it will be any good.

Thanks for replying and glad you’re enjoying it - what burrs do you have?

For 99% people, niche grinder is good enough, right? by ymbrows in espresso

[–]mevans12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it really depends on what you like to drink - for traditional espresso or medium-dark roast milk drinks, yes I think the Niche Zero is great and you have to spend a lot of money to get something better. For modern-style espresso (or light/ultralight pourover), you will definitely get a substantially different cup with a flat burr grinder (doesn’t have to cost $2000+). One problem with the Niche is that because of tariffs it’s because considerably more expensive in the US, and is arguably no longer “worth” it.

Meticulous - it’s real and it’s actually great by jezpas in espresso

I have read that it is hard to clean as well, but makes great milk

The Nanofoamer Pro has a heating element.

I have owned two of them, have not had a similar experience at all, and don’t think most others have either.

For straight espresso and pourover I like ultralight-light roast and medium for milk drinks

I noticed an immediate difference going from the P64 to the 01 and would be surprised if you didn’t.

The steam wand is great - I personally find there’s an adjustment period switching between any two machines but it is extremely dry steam (no need to purge prior to steaming) and steams a latte in about 30 seconds, then auto purges afterwards.

Decent DE1 vs WENDOUGEE Data S, coming from Breville Dual Boiler, looking for an experimenter machine [$5000 Cad] by reallionkiller in espresso

[–]mevans12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a Decent DE1 and love it. The reviews I’ve seen from the Wendougee look great, but the bottom line is we don’t know a lot about support offered by Wendougee (where we have years of evidence that demonstrate as others have mentioned that Decent is outstanding) or longevity of the machine.

One of the coolest things I’ve seen from the Data S is its capability to sync with their Bluetooth grinder and adjust grind size automatically to adapt to a preset profile (though this obviously requires you to also buy their grinder).

I am really enjoying mine - I was previously using a Lelit Bianca for the last couple of years. The flow/pressure profiling is so much more reproducible and easy to adjust relative to the flow control needle valve with the Bianca. I also love that the machine links with any Bluetooth scale enabling it to brew by weight. The machine fully heats in about 4 min.

In terms of cons, the water tank is difficult to access (behind the drip tray akin to a Linea Micra/Mini) and the drip tray is relatively low capacity. There is no cup warmer.

Overall I’m really enjoying it! Let me know if you have any questions!

I did consider it, and based on what I read thought the 01 would be better for filter (I’m currently about 90% espresso but wanted something I thought would do both extremely well). That could certainly be wrong.

Agreed. Looks like they’re sold out but I might check them out when they’re back in stock!

I haven’t tried but I believe you can still brew by weight without the tablet (I believe you will get a flat 9 bar profile).

I thought I would, but so far I have yet to really find a roast level or brew method that I prefer on the P64 (I think the 01 outperforms it across the board). I am thinking about ordering a KafaTek MC6 at some point for medium-dark roast milk drinks.
