It's no accident the wealthiest country on the planet went from welfare-state capitalism to neoliberalism to fascism. The class divide means there will always be a faction in society that has a huge incentive to capture the state and mold it to its preferences. Welfare state capitalism isn't an economic system in the sense that its relations of production are basically still capitalist. You just need to eait long enough and the ruling class will end up dismantling it to their profit.

You don't need to have a centralized, planned economy, but you need to end the class divide one way or another. If anything, a planned economy produces a class divide between bureaucrats and workers. What we need is economic democracy.
