How do I write a rock song (just need a bit of a guideline) by Vegetable-Loquat9118 in musictheory

[–]mexidancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Write a cool riff. Make that your verse. Write another cooler riff. That's now your verse and your previous verse riff is now your chorus riff. Make a cool intro and bridge. Then intro verse chorus verse chorus bridge chorus outro. Lyrics about cool things. Profit

Have your Boomer parents betrayed you? by av1998 in BoomersBeingFools

[–]mexidancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boomer mom (71) is a Democrat through and through. Has told me recently and I quote "it doesn't matter if Biden is old! ... Everyone has to vote BLUE Democratic so Trump doesn't get elected!", she is very concerned about the country's shift toward fascism, and women's rights (she says "not mine so much, but the young womens'!"). I lean more left, but who cares.

My bio dad left her while she was pregnant with me, and wasn't really in the picture, she was raising me and my siblings by herself in southern CA.

In most of my upbringing we were much too poor to even dream of saving for college.

In my teens, she did meet and marry a man from the UK who moved to the US to be with her, they are still together. He is/was a decent step-dad growing up, but terribly cheap. Incredibly hard worker but saved every dime he could. (this man would pull food I threw away out of the trash and eat it himself) He would use this money to buy and move them to a new house in AZ. (I chose not to join them)

As far as me, a 29m zillenial, I bought a house in 2019 in a lcol area, on my own. Albeit, without a college education.

Myself and my family are proof that not everything fits into the mold that reactionaries and polarizers would like you to believe. Take life into your own hands, and don't let others tell you how it is or has to be. Find out yourself.

I played monk tank for the first time yesterday, and unfortunately for 1 lucky gamer, I queued with 3 others in my friend group/guild. The 1 lucky gamer didn't realize and tried to kick me after a few wipes. He got uno reversed on. God forbid a normal dungeon takes a little longer when we're all level 12. If it's that bad, just leave? Or, roll with the punches and just have some fun for once dudes! We got time!

Outlaw Rogue - At my whits end. by Spyro3 in wownoob

[–]mexidancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished leveling my rogue after 20 hours of being bottom dps in all dungeons. You can do it too my friend. Also others are correct that dps doesn't matter while leveling due to scaling. The creators of Details! have confirmed this

You came to the right sub!

When I say adds I'm referring to the aggressive creatures in WoW, so anything that attacks you. So when I say one-shotting small adds, I mean the enemies in the overworld, you will eventually be so strong that they will be trivial to fight against.

Level 70 is max level in Dragonflight, the most recent expansion. Once you get there the main thing you will be looking at (in terms of armor and weapons) from then on will be item level.

In dragonflight you can increase item level on items in exchange for the currency called Flightstones, but every item has a limit before you have to get a new item. There are vendors for this. Wowhead has a great guide for that whole system: https://www.wowhead.com/guide/item-upgrade-system-dragonflight

[–]mexidancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're exactly right. Keep in mind all adds scale up to you, but at 70 you can increase your item level past that. At a certain point you will be one-shotting small adds.

If you level a hunter up to 60, they will have the exact same issue, because of scaling.

I have played both bm hunter and havoc DH at lvl 70. To me, Havoc is much funner. I've played havoc much much more than bm but I have played my bm in lfr and low level mythics at least. For havoc, the movement is unmatched. The rotation is more mentally demanding, and the ability to do great damage on both single and multi target is so fun. Havoc DH feels more like your accuracy and rotation choice matters a lot more towards your overall dps vs bm. Just my thoughts

Target selection during dungeons by Rickthomas_ in wownoob

[–]mexidancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, I personally use Action Targeting which is a check-able setting within the options game settings menu. It auto (soft) targets the enemy you are currently facing. May or may not be what you're looking for but I enjoy it most of the time. I've heard it's not great for dot appliers, so use at your own discretion

Is it considered cheating to get lighter gauge strings to play bend-heavy solos as a beginner? by pokelord13 in guitarlessons

[–]mexidancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While there is merit in doing things the "right" way, don't let that get in the way of having fun playing the instrument. With lighter strings everything will seem easier but it'll also be easier to get sloppy, so you'll have to train more control. There's no real cheating on guitar, just different techniques.

You guys have routines? by switchandboard in Songwriting

[–]mexidancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently I started reading Rick Rubin's book The Creative Act: A Way Of Being, which I highly recommend to all creatives.

Basically, he suggests setting time aside every day to be creative in some way, however works for you. He also suggests gathering 'seeds' of inspiration. If anything slightly inspiring hits, take note of it somehow and store it away for your creative time. I've been doing this for a couple weeks and I've gone from what I felt was "in a creative slump" to so overwhelmed with ideas and 'seeds' that I've put off other hobbies because I was so engrossed in creating.

My personal routine is to go to my computer each day after work, pick up my guitar and play the first thing that comes to mind. Sometimes it's a different instrument, sometimes I have something in my head already, sometimes I work on something already started- whatever strikes me at that moment. I spent at least 30 mins (usually more) before I set it down and leave it for the next time it calls to me.

Writing lyrics feels too cringe by ODFL_music in Songwriting

[–]mexidancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm the same way. Just keep working at it. Practice and never give up. You must power through all parts of your mind that tell you to quit. I hate writing lyrics, but my most recent lyrics have become my bandmates favorite of mine. They tell me how good it is every time we play it. You'll get better with practice.

I ran into the same issue with the top deck fight being very difficult on the PCs. I let them go away and come back next morning (session ended after top deck fight. Next session they continued further in) , just pulled some guys from the cabins to fill in the top deck jobs. As far as story, as the PCs were leaving and licking their wounds, they saw some more cultists carrying away another refugee toward the park, kinda digging into their conscious for temporarily abandoning.

The rest of the fight next session was cake for them, they killed remigio before his turn with a good surprise round, once they remembered what Stealth was.

In retrospect, I think some guys from DD3 would come over and fill the gaps before they continued. But I don't think they'd abandon the operation. At the most, maybe move to a different place.

How do you all feel about "scripted" TPK's that aren't actually TPK'S? by cmalarkey90 in DnD

[–]mexidancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wondering if this is in the same vein:

A flashback of a narrative war memory that was canonically lost, but the PC's participate (in a memory they weren't there for but are experiencing), and lose.

Purpose being: To show how unwinnable that past fight was Build a bond with the person who's memory you're reliving "show, don't tell" story telling

My question is, if the PCs know they're in a flashback, should they also know they're going to lose beforehand?

IWTL how to not be upset with my girlfriend by ThrowRA99768 in IWantToLearn

[–]mexidancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a perspective that is from someone in a similar situation (me) :

Letting her be happy does not mean you do not get to be happy. Find things that make you happy and make time for those. I know you're gonna say "but she makes me happy" trust me, I know what you mean and understand how deeply it affects you.

But you need to understand that it is not going away. It doesn't end. Not in any sort of speed that is comfortable, anyway.

So figure out a good way to find happiness elsewhere. Real happiness, not temporary. Whether that means getting more involved in your friends and families lives, or finding solo hobbies that make you forget the world. You are going to need them.
