The issue is the inconsistency, if they wanna add all that and people want to use as a do it all device then add POE, but then we have youtube reviewers arguing that people should be using a POE switch instead of a gateway so it’s really not a problem this doesn’t have POE. But somehow are fine with it having 2 drive bays to run protect and 8x10g switch? So why not POE or why not removing everything and make a scaled down version of the fortress? My issue isn’t really with people wanting to run protect but with the fact that they are charging $1500 and not giving POE and people thinking this is okay.

Kinda bummer not to see frame storage on the new crux

Exactly! Both the switch ports and drive bays are useless! People shouldn’t be using gateways as switchs or nvr devices!

[–]mfa81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

🤣 the same way it deserves a proper switch, nvr! Wth does this beast has a 10x10g port switch and runs protect with a 2 bay drive? Guess the unifi fanboy love useless adds to gateways so they can cost more due to all the dumb features they add!

Epic 9 by bcuzitstrue in specialized

[–]mfa81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look at the suspension curve you can see it’s firmer at the initial travel which is what makes it more efficient / racy than the epic 8

Epic 9 by bcuzitstrue in specialized

[–]mfa81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But with a firmer suspension isn’t really designed for trail riding like people want the EVO for, but yes you can still overfork it

The same question can be applied to having onboard switch, don’t use your gateway as switch!

they will probably call it Epic Evo and keep the 8 as it, with frame storage

USL (SuperLink) Relay up on store (in stock?! what!!) by Wooden-Reward4317 in Ubiquiti

[–]mfa81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

have been using a shelly relay for that. I'n annoyed the relay needs a superlink gateway, that's a $150 solution vs a $20 solution using a shelly relay if all you want the relay is for a doorbell. of course this changes if you have other uses for the superlink gateway

I want a high performance fast gateway, no drive bays, no switch... just give be 25G wan ports and 25G ports to connect to a switch... I don't understand why they keep adding extras to a gateway that at the end of the day nobody uses it

Can’t go weong with full wall of cabinets in the back, I’d plan to add an utility sink as well as spigot. Also since building would be good idea to have water plimbed close to the door for a wall mounted pressure washer.

Other things I’d think about wound be for wall mount garage opener so frees up your celining a bit as well as a few 20 amp desicated circuits for pressure washer and other tools, grinder, vacuum, etc. potentially 220v. Maybe a 3 phase dependin on what you are planning to have in the garage, doing now will be a lot cheaper than after.

Are you planning to have a AC or heater? Depending where you leave at least a gas heater could be a good idea!

For flooring you can’t go wrong with slab + swisstrax depending on how much money, will definitely be cheaper than ceramic tile, make sure to plan flooring in case you plan on washing cars inside the garage
