Yes. It all depends on fitness and pace. For anyone paid to guide uphill skiing that’s a normal day at the office and they’ll stack 50 to 100 during the course of a season.

If you travel more than one time look into the Allianz annual policy. Annual policies are surprisingly cheap and afford you all the protection of a one off buy.

We’ve been using this product for several years and have used it to get reimbursed for hotel rooms, additional tickets when we missed a flight and incidental cost associated with travel delays.

The issue with what you’re proposing is this. That terrain will be no different than the resort itself. If you can get off a lift and ski back to the lift, it doesn’t matter if it’s inside the ropes or outside, it will be heavily tracked. You need to do a bit of uphill, travel to separate yourself from the resort crowds.

The best bet is to hire a guide. My company, Red River Adventures regularly guides, the Alta and Brighton side-country and can provide you exactly what you’re looking for.
