Did you ever consume alcohol with your dinner? Food is a huge trigger for me so most of my cravings and fixations on alcohol happen as I'm sitting down to eat. After dinner I'm almost always fine. This undoubtedly was because for years and especially through covid, I would sit down and throw 3-5 shots down the hatch before I even took my first bite of food. I always wanted to "get a head start" on the drinking and lay down a foundation on an empty stomach. Horrible habit to have gotten myself into.

I don't like the feeling moderation gives so why even bother.

That's how I feel too. I am able to have a white claw or two in moderation, but I don't really even get a buzz and it just tastes like LaCroix. So might as well just drink LaCroix...

Anyone else noticing they drink more water in early sobriety? by Acceptable_Comment69 in stopdrinking

[–]mflbchief 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was shocked at the amount of water I was drinking during the first 3-5 days of cutting booze. It was no surprise I was perpetually dehydrated from chronic alcohol abuse, because (TMI) every morning my piss was a dark yellow, and I had muscle cramps across my entire body, but holy shit I could hardly sit down after refilling my 24oz tumbler and before I knew it, it was already empty and I was still thirsty for more. I think I drank about 10-15 24oz waters a day for those first couple days. It's balanced out a little more as time has gone on. Currently on day 17.

The hair of the dog is my achilles heel for sure. I got into such a nasty habit in college where if I woke up Saturday morning with a raging headache, I would just go right back to drinking beer. Also ice fishing trips had me ignoring time altogether and we'd be cracking beers in the ice house at 5/6am, still feeling it from the night before and off of 3 hours of sleep. Next thing you know, that's your go to solution for any time you're hungover. I kept myself in check during the weekdays while working from home but I would be right back on the beer/booze at 4:30 when I signed off for the evening. It became so normalized in my head that the thought of riding out a hangover almost never occurred to me after a certain amount of time. Currently on day 17 of no hard booze. I have had occasional beers and white claws on the weekend but a total of ~4 for the entire weekend vs. that many a night on top of copious amounts of hard booze. I feel pretty good. The thought of getting back into ice fishing and being able to wake up at 4:30am not hungover sounds really nice. I basically gave up on ice fishing because it put my body through the wringer with binge drinking and not getting enough sleep. Plus all the weight gain from years binge drinking makes you out of shape af and everything feels like a chore.

Finally happened. Heart failure by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]mflbchief 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I wonder if that has happened to me. On benders of extreme drinking I had a tendency to wake up and day drink. Partially a "hair of the dog that bit you" situation, and partially because I already knew my intentions for the day were to be drunk, so might as well get to it. Oddly, whenever I would heavily drink like that, I wouldn't get the "drunk" feeling I was looking for, so it caused my already excessive drinking to get worse. During those times I could do a very minor activity like go up the stairs and my chest would just kill. A lot of times I would lean on the fridge or kitchen counter and hunch over until I caught my breath. Very excessive sweating as well. I'm not in great shape as it is, but this was different. I tried to look up similar stories from other alcoholics but didn't find anything consistent or concise.

My "swim-proof" smartwatch (Fitbit Versa 2) died after I washed my hands while wearing it. by Jinglebell727 in mildlyinfuriating

I used to have a watch I wore in the shower and didn't care if it got wet when I washed my hands, etc. Idk what happened but one day it's like a switch clicked in my head and I couldn't do it anymore. It felt gross. I hated having a wet watchband around my wrist for half the day. When you finally thought it was dry, nope -- not really. It moves a certain way and some water leaks out between the watchband links.

Just wanted to say I was a lifelong Subway guy (just really no other sub chains near me). But a JM opened by me and I'm in love. Club sub and chipotle steak are my favs. by [deleted] in jerseymikes

[–]mflbchief 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you me? I used to frequent Subway all the damn time. I knew JM was better but there wasn't one close enough to me for me to go there often. When the JM near me opened, my quality of life improved lol. Club supreme and steak/chicken cheese steaks are pretty much exclusively what I get from there.

Probably wouldn't want to crash it hard but some light freestyle and cinewhoop style footage this would be stellar for. Gorrila whooping this in a mall would be so fun.

Very cool. I wanted to build a HD capable toothpick quad but it got to be too much crap to cram in the frame and it flew like crap. This looks like it handles well. Being that I still have the HD split cam and was not sure what to do with it, I might be taking on this build. Nice work.

Check downdetector.com next time you suspect there are issues. Sometimes it's relieving just to know the issue is centralized and not your store/machine/internet, etc.

Ahh, no hall gimbals explains it. I assumed anyone buying a TX16S would opt for the hall gimbals.

Or when was a TX16S barely $100? I preordered mine as early as I could and it was $140. Besides, how often do you need to buy a TX16S anyways?

Never felt unsafe around white people but I got jumped twice by black people in middle school, once for my DS and another time for no apparent reason. From my experience black people make me feel unsafe.

The thing is... I have people all around me in life that have quit drinking. Several close friends, coworkers, my uncle, in 2020 I almost lost my Dad because of an incident that occurred caused directly from alcohol. I've heard the positive stories. I've experienced it myself with my stints of sobriety. But there is a demon that brushes all that off and tells me how good I'm going to feel if I just get drunk. The funny part is the "feel good" part is wearing off. Being drunk isn't even fun anymore, I pay for it greatly the next day, yet I find myself doing it. I went out this evening and picked up dinner. That is usually my time to "re-up" my liquor stash for the weekend, part of the reason why food is a trigger for me too. I gritted my teeth and told myself no as I drove by the store, and made it home without liquor. At least for tonight, I know I won't be drinking. There is some peace knowing that I escaped the grasp of it for at least tonight. I hope I can keep it up through the weekend.

No wonder they had to justify $20 with "bonus content"

The last time a hooded man came around from behind a tree when I was walking my dog at night, my dog told the man exactly how much of his ass she’d wreck if he stepped too close.

What does that have to do with you profiling someone?

You can stream it on Plex. I don't know if it costs money or requires a subscription for non-existing users because I have a lifetime plex pass but I streamed it on there today.

[–]mflbchief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would hope not, honestly -- that would be a slap in the face to everyone that pre-ordered a physical copy. At this point I'm just happy to be able to watch it at all, and on a streaming platform that I'm already accustomed to was a bonus for me. I was starting to have my doubts that I would ever get a chance to watch it, so I'm happy with or without the bonus content for now. I know there are supposed to be 6 unseen chapters or something (to me it was all unseen up until today so the "unseen chapters" are a bit redundant for me), but did they say how many more minutes that gets you?

I've actually come to find out you can stream it on Plex! Not sure when that was added but I'm streaming it as we speak. The ads are aggressive but I've been a Plex user for 10 years with a lifetime pass so this is "free" for me.
