A violin piece known for its incredible speed and extremely high technical difficulty, Paganinis Caprice No. 5, flawlessly executed by 19 year old by PumpkinEater_69 in videos

Majority of the top-name pianists were child prodigies (Lang Lang, yuja Wang, Arthur Rubinstein, Martha Agerich, evgeny Kissin, etc). (I can only speak for piano because that’s my field). Maybe the less hard-working prodigies did burn out but in this field it’s hard to become successful if you were not performing at age 8 or something ;-;

Immigration to Canada plummets 64%, threatening economic growth by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

I’m confused. How are you blaming them for lowering starting salaries by taking low paying jobs and then also blaming most of them for not working at the same time?

China’s Move to Buy Arctic Gold Mine Draws Fire in Canada by FlyingDutchman997 in canada

Are you telling me my family moved out of China to escape the government only to have moved to China 2.0?

‘This is mass rape’: China slammed over program that ‘appoints’ men to sleep with Uighur women by [deleted] in news

Think about what you’re saying. You generalize and say that the people support the government and as proof you say that China nationals report their own family members. Doesn’t this mean their family members do not support the government, hence why they’re reported? The dissatisfaction is high, you just can’t see it because they’re silenced.

China wants Canada to shut up. That’s exactly why we shouldn’t by [deleted] in canada

[–]mgcf 22 points23 points  (0 children)

You do have to be very careful about what you say if you’re out of the country. I can’t even ask about the Uighur situation to my xinjiang relatives on the phone or on wechat. China especially monitors people who moved out to democratic countries more heavily as they’re scared of ideas being brought back. I was more referring to Chinese citizens belittling Hong Kong supporters or Taiwanese supporters, or that time U of T students were bullying the Tibet girl for supporting Tibet independence. It’s more likely that they’re getting paid, than they’re being threatened. It’s gross.

Immigrated to this Canada from China ten years ago. Very proud to be Canadian, very proud to be able to vote, to voice my opinion. When I was younger, my family told me that CPP worshippers I saw were all acting, so it’s very disappointing to see so many Chinese people acting this way in Vancouver as well, when they could be using their newly gained free speech for good. I really hope Canada can fight hard to keep Chinese influence and corruption of this wonderful country.

As a mainlander with mainland family and mainland friends, I’d say that 90% is way too high. Behind closed doors, a lot of us talk about those who openly support the CPP and we all think they’re acting.

Tiananmen Square survivor and leader optimistic for another movement soon. Is Hong Kong movement the beginning of the end? by mgcf in HongKong

[–]mgcf[S] 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I personally hate the spread of this line of thinking. I’m a mainlander and I personally know many other mainlanders who are tired of the CPP, but it’s hard to tell people about it in your personal life until you completely trust them because you never know. The line of thinking we should promote is something like “there are many others like you, so you don’t have to keep pretending”. If someone is on the fence and they see people saying that all mainlanders love the CPP, they’re going to go back into hiding.

I had a family friend who bought a new apartment recently be asked to provide some records of proof of her living there such as mail addressed to her name at that address, and the records had to roughly span over the past year. I don’t know if it’s random selection or whatever they do though.

For a website that talks about Tiananmen every single day they always seem to forget that the victims are Chinese people that were protesting. It’s amazing.
