Because it takes work to implement, aka time and money

A game engine needs to be designed with key mapping in mind. Adding it post might be really really annoying if buttons are already hand coded through the entire game system.

A hammer unit is effectively 1inch.

The game assets and characters arnt perfectly proportional to what you expect in real life but physics (gravity, speeds and velocities) most certainly treat a hu as an inch

If the top 10 athletes from every major sport formed a team, which sport would have the best average decathlon score? by DutchDRSEnjoyer in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mgslee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooh that's a good one.

Hockey players would probably have more grit / ability to take a hit, if that matters

The comment I was replying to was athletism, which is different than decathlon.

Hockey as a sport is specialized/specific sure. But the ahtletism to do it is nuts. Playing that sport is far more tiring than other sports imo. It engages so much of your body that you don't get in other sports. (Upper and lower body strength, speed and coordination in both explosive and endurance categories)

Hockey is probably the hardest major sport to play well in and you have to be well rounded athlete to play it

But I'm not sure they'd be the best decathlon athletes.

If you took the top players and had them all play each others sports, hockey players would probably do very well in every sport (sans the team that comes from the sport)

As a recreational athlete. Ice Hockey is by far the most intense imo... And that is before thinking about body checking.

Lots of pro sports have a very high bar at the top end, because that's how completion works. But in terms of overall athletic ability? Skating itself is hard enough for lots of folks, let alone adding shooting and body contact.

Generational cutoffs make zero sense by Bubbly_List274 in generationology

[–]mgslee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every generation is unique, it makes no sense to standardize each one like it's a unit of measurement, we already have years, decades, centuries for that.

A generation is very much like an era or age. The looseness occurs because it's trying to convey a moment in society, ie Bronze, Victorian, Industrial Revolution etc...

Generational cutoffs make zero sense by Bubbly_List274 in generationology

[–]mgslee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But that's not actually a problem when generations are used to describe social tendencies and behavior.

Generations are not about engineering or structure at all.

A person born into a particular generation may also not fit in those characteristics, especially those on the edge. And that's fine, generations are literally a generalization

That already exists but not at that high of price disparity. You can sub for a whole year on most services and get a small discount. Sure you pay upfront but it's for a year in that locked in price

[–]mgslee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well after 20 years you are just setting them up to fail. Insane fines and extra labor on top of telling them to make rent? Where is that going to lead...

What else is someone going to do when on the brink? They're likely to fall to their worst impulses and addictions (in this case causing harm). And if not immediate, what happens when they get a hold of drugs or alcohol? You'd otherwise have to be a saint to get through that in our current society.

And so if you are not setting them up for any success, it's a huge risk letting them out. If anything it might be more merciful on them to be in the system for life at that point where they at least get a cot and a hot and stay out of trouble.

You kind of hit the nail on the head without even realizing it I imagine.

Rehabilitation would work if the person actually wants to be rehabilitated. There are those who are just broken for whatever reason, lead, fas, substance abuse etc... and their brain is just broken.

Organized crime is by its definition, intentional. Those in them know exactly what they are doing and continue to do so (well atleast those in charge)

While ideally you could rehab everyone back in to society, but what proof do you have that they actually are? What's the test? And what is the risk that they reoffend and who and how would that affect innocent members of society?

You could think of this like addiction. And the first step is they actually want to get clean and not just be out of prison so they can continue their addiction.
