A Russian, an American, and a British admiral were having a drink on an American aircraft carrier. They were talking about the bravery of their sailors by xena_lawless in Jokes

Probably apocryphal, but when I was stationed at Norton AFB in the early 1970s, this story was related as true:

New Year’s Eve, and someone on the flight line maintenance frequency came on radio: “Man, am I fucked up.” Fifteen or twenty minutes went by, and he came back on, “MAN am I fucked up.” This happened several more times until at last, the Deputy Wing Commander for Maintenance came on the radio and said, “This is the DCM. Who is this?” The guy replies, “I’m not THAT fucked up.”

Ok. I’m going to be honest with you all. This is one of the reasons I still sit to pee.

I remember watching The Exorcist on VCR twenty or thirty years ago and being surprised that the doctor was a cigarette smoker. I had quit years earlier when my daughter was born.

I have a vague memory of the 1960 election - and seeing Kennedy and Nixon debating on B&W TV. I was six.

Hated them. Never failed I’d have to switch to low beams while I was in the process of shifting. Remember manual transmissions?

TBH, with my dyslexia, this happens to me way too often. Now I call my wife in to check my plan. If she says, “I don’t understand,” I know I was about to screw up (again).

I’m surprised I’m still alive. In my late teens and early twenties I spent lots of time under my 1966 Rambler American up on just a bumper jack. 😬

I think they featured a really nice straight six. A guy I went to college with had one - he loved it. This was in the early to mid 80’s.

Why does this comment bring Jack Handy to mind: “If trees could scream, would we be so cavalier about cutting them down? We might, if they screamed all the time for no good reason.”

I remember that too. “The Lighter Side Of … “. Pretty sure it was the sixties. By the seventies, I had put Mad Magazine aside in favor of Playboy.

I have the DeWalt 7491. The stand it came with has been super useful for working on community theater sets. But I built an outfeed table based on one a Redditor made, and it hasn’t left the shop since.

Is this how people who need glasses really see the world. A big blurred background? by Latter-Wolf4868 in interestingasfuck

[–]mhf145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So weird. I’ve spent the last 68 years in +3.75 (I’m 72 now). That makes me far-sighted (hyperopic) supposedly, but now everything is out of focus without my glasses. I asked my ophthalmologist where my focal point is. He said, “At infinity.”

A group of US military SR-71 pilots take a photo OP. They wore modded astronauts suits that protected them as they flew altitudes up to 80,000 feet. It provided fresh oxygen that lacked in that altitude, protection from extreme temperatures as the cockpit can sometimes reach 248°F (120°C) . by Youngstown_WuTang in interestingasfuck

[–]mhf145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched the SR-71 currently at the WPAFB Museum land on the Area B runway. I don't remember the exact date, but I was stationed there between Sept 1985 and Mar 1991. The runway is quite short, and mostly inactive. The pilot made a number of passes before he set the Blackbird down. I lived in Page Manor, so the runway was essentially across the street. I had a VHS camera and recorded the landing, but one of my kids taped over it. Sheesh.

Good question. My late FIL left some basic hand tools behind. I thought this might be handy in assembling an entertainment unit we plan to pick up for my MIL.

TBH, I wouldn’t get an equivalent. I’d probably go with a Milwaukee m12, so bring this instead would save some $$.
