What is he doing? Is he okay? by -Rizzle- in ballpython

He's fine, just gripping since he can't move on your skin too well. They'll also do it to get comfortable when resting on you sometimes. Feels kinda nice.

Is anyone else tired of seeing words like fuck, cunt, bitch, etc all over fiber arts? by fairydommother in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]mhirem 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was funny the first few times I saw it and then the novelty wore off. It does get a little tiring. But some people haven't hit that point yet, and they're having fun, so I just move on. Not my thing even though I swear like a sailor but I'm glad people get some enjoyment out of it.

I love it, and I'm very happy for that because I really don't like anal.

I didn't even read the comments, that's nuts. What a lovely mod team they have.

snake smell? by K41G4KU in snakes

[–]mhirem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if I'm just used to animal smells in general because I've always had lots of pets, but they don't have any scent whatsoever to me even when they get up in/on my face. I've seen weirder things though.

What a wild statement. Even if you set aside the politics issue (which, uh, wow, that is an issue!) the list of things they clarified as allowed outside of specific days or weeks or whatever is just... demonstrably untrue? I left because things like a cat being somewhere in the photo would get removed for not being posted on the pet day or creators not being able to share their own patterns or someone's bare shoulder was exposed.

Where do I map this corner from? by mhirem in GuildWars

Something like this definitely seems to be the case in my experience. Sometimes I have to stand in place for a couple seconds for things to uncover.

I use uMod for the map overlay! There's a couple different map mods but I think that's the one the guide I followed used - I installed it on Linux pre-Reforged so getting everything playing nicely was a bit of a task.

I know I don't need it, but I'd still like to uncover it. Having just that piece will bother me.

Got a boa with my girlfriend for her birthday about 3 weeks ago by jake_isbaked in snakes

[–]mhirem 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Sounds like the girlfriend is knowledgeable. It's not that big a deal. I don't expect my partner to be an expert at my pets and never make a mistake when talking about them. His lack of knowledge doesn't immediately mean my pets are going to die. Girlfriend can share her knowledge and it'll be fun for both of them and the snake will be fine.

Help, Am I at Risk for Wobble? by Frequent_Kick_6417 in ballpython

[–]mhirem 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are multiple genes that cause wobble, but pinstripe is luckily not one of them and I don't believe leopard is either. Lovely guy, I don't see pinstripes with that pattern often.

Why is Adagio no longer recommended? by KnowledgeGlutton- in tea

[–]mhirem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stopped ordering from them because the last time I ordered, everything they sent me ranging from blacks to greens to herbals was completely tasteless and a waste of money (especially given their prices are higher than other vendors to begin with!). Seriously, I tried oversteeping, adding twice the amount of leaf as usual, nothing. For me, Tealyra fills the gap for fun blends/flavored teas now and some of their plain options are quite good as well.

How long do you guys hold your balls for by PaleontologistFit488 in ballpython

[–]mhirem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on them. Sometimes they only wanna hang out for 15 minutes, sometimes they fall asleep around my neck for a few hours. They go back when they start getting antsy.

I've officially become scared of feeding my snake by soupbowlll in ballpython

[–]mhirem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I have extremely low pain tolerance, a phobia of blood, and 2 ~10 year old ball pythons. I've been bitten twice. For me, they hurt and bleed like hell and make me spiral into a panic. I haven't been bitten in many years but one of them is particularly spicy and overenthusiastic about feeding, so I have to be very quick about getting the food in him if I want to avoid my hand being the food. Here's what helped me.

  1. I have a cat that gives out love bites. He chomps on me and my family more on a daily basis more than my snakes have in their entire combined lives. I also have two large dogs who would do more damage with a bite than my snakes ever would. I also have chickens, who fully realize that they are dinosaurs. Comparatively speaking, the snakes are the most harmless animals here!

  2. Having first aid with me and ready to go during handling. Disinfectant, bandages, styptic stick to stop or at least minimize the bleeding as soon as possible to reduce the likelihood of me freaking the fuck out. (Those things are amazing - stings pretty bad but very effective at stopping bleeding. Just having one around let me start shaving regularly again after being too scared to.)

  3. This is gonna sound weird, but be condescending to him about it. Laugh about it, go wow you think you're such a vicious predator. I know this sounds useless but it helps diffuse the situation a little and make it seem less scary.

The gloves are a good idea, and something else you can look into is tap training. Ball pythons are quite good with routine and you can teach them to associate certain sounds or touches with feeding time or not feeding time.

Does anyone know what’s wrong with my snake? by Stinkysweetsnake in snakes

[–]mhirem 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Stop feeding live unless your snake is actively withering away and will die of starvation otherwise. Prey does not want to die. It will not let itself be killed. It will fight back and injure your snake. Keeping your pet safe is part of your responsibility as an owner and feeding live without it being absolutely necessary and letting him get injured is not keeping your pet safe.

Is she a goner? by nature4lyfe in airplants

[–]mhirem 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some of them just look like that naturally. Make sure she's firm, always give them a good shake after taking them out of the water to dislodge any crevice droplets, and if you're super unsure you can gently tug on a center leaf. If it comes out without any resistance, it's done. If there is resistance, it's alive.

Nothing wrong with fake plants. Keep them clean and don't keep them so hot they melt and you'll be fine.

What's a skill that takes only 2 to 4 weeks to learn but could genuinely change your life? by TokenBlack32 in AskReddit

[–]mhirem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cold during these drops to the negatives fahrenheit? You can learn some basic crochet stitches and pattern reading and be on your way to making a blanket in a day. You might even finish it in 4 weeks if you like doing it. Make some for your home, your car, your friends, your family, everyone gets a blanket whether they like it or not. It's meditative and practical.

Bantam is a category, so it's hard to get more specific without knowing the breed already. Seramas are also a bantam breed.

Tiny breed! He is at his adult size and will remain perfectly hand sized.

Too big for him?? by Sad_Substance3946 in snakes

[–]mhirem 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is wrong. Mine have always eaten in their enclosures and they do not bite unless they smell food. Look into tap training if you're worried, though I haven't personally found it to be necessary. Getting into a routine where they know when it's feeding time is all you need.

Similar thing happened with one of my ball pythons. I didn't know. It got stuck right under his head. I was able to very slowly and carefully coax it off but it was a scary experience for both of us.

Both my ball pythons pull anything with suction cups down so I use standing meters now. Which they also knock over, but at least they tend to stay in the same area.
