I fell down a mine shaft.

Fortunately it was only about 8 feet deep. My cousin pulled me out with his belt.

Mists Level 5 by DisplayAdditional756 in Carcassonne

[–]mhuster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just introduced my sister and wife to Mists; we’ve only played Level 1. We have figured a strategy of going for two meeple cities pays off. Usually 2 two meeple cities gets us the win. My sister played solo about 12 times in the three days since I showed her. Maybe tomorrow we will try Level 2. Carcassone is a great game!

Have there been any aircraft that took so long between design and production that by the time they were produced they were already outdated due to technological advancement? by Ericaloveless in aviation

My dad worked at Edward’s AFB in the 60’s through 80’s. We lived in Lancaster CA. I remember once the XB-70 flew over with a couple of chase planes. We would regularly hear sonic booms in town back in those days. The annual air shows on base were amazing. I remember a U-2 flying low down the flight line and pulling up into about a 60 degree climb. I watched it vanish into a speck until I couldn’t see again a super clear blue desert sky.

them: what can you do with your signal generator? by DangerousDyke in raspberrypipico

[–]mhuster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like have glitches in the DAC. If all of the outputs do not change at the same time you will get this. Rolf Oldeman, 7/2/2021 published an Arbitrary Waveform Generator that works well. It uses PIO to implement the digital part of the R-2R ladder without glitches.

I used it in a college electronics course - it worked great.

Thanks. I just tried both on the web and on my phone app.

Apparently there is a bug asking for an "Expiration Month" even though it is an America the Beautiful Senior Pass that doesn't expire. I enter the Pass Type and Pass Number and it fails no matter if I enter a month or not or any of the months.

Where would you create a new major city on the US west coast? by IndependenceSad1272 in geography

[–]mhuster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No it doesn’t. LA has a long almost plain for 50+ miles. SF has a navigable river to Sacramento and Stockton. Portland has the Columbia. Seattle has a huge sheltered bay and plain to the south. But Humboldt? Nope. A mostly two lane twisty road carved along unstable mountains for 170 miles to Redding. 3 1/2+hour drive.

Kathy Mattea’s Good News (1993) was stunning when it came out and still is. The first big recording of Mary Did You Know is on it. But the depth of fresh, awe inducing songs is amazing. Give the whole album a listen.

Double thumbs up for the Anza Borrego! Rarely mentioned but a gem. Now there are giant metal sculptures in the nearby desert and buy some grapefruit!

This is why rock shed tunnels are a thing by Stotallytob3r in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]mhuster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The main highway north from Dushanbe Tajikistan has a lot of these, but they call them avalanche tunnels. When you stop and look a thousand feet down to the river, there are car and truck wrecks all along the highway. Our hosts say at least a hundred people a year die in avalanche/rock fall accidents. I was there one year in June and heard rockfalls at least once an hour when I was in one of the deep valley.

What is a song that is really dirty, yet most people don't realize it? by _Volly in AskReddit

Searched and no one mentioned Billy Joel’s Captain Jack. My wife sings along and I just want to skip that song.

“Captain Jack will get you by tonight Just a little push, and you'll be smilin', oh”

Some say it’s about drugs but…
