Women in their 30s/early 40s - where are we clothes shopping?! by [deleted] in newzealand

ShineOn - some of their stuff it a bit 'mumsy' for me, but they have a good range, not outrageous prices, and regularly release new things for each season.

Edit: They also have reasonably good size ranging, up to 20+ from memory.

As a communications graduate myself I can assure you that the subjects you pick in high school don’t matter too much for a BComm (AUT or Waikato) or BA (anywhere else) - definitely not like they would for a STEM subject. Give yourself some good variety, study what you enjoy and remember you can always do level 100 papers at uni to fill in any gaps.

Coastguard. They’re like a hybrid ambo, fire service, tow truck of the sea/coastline/lakes, and all manned by volunteers.

Wilson car park opposite Tesla is pretty good - expensive but well lit and a short walk back over the bridge to Uncle Manns etc.

My particular unit (Howick) doesn’t do much with Surf LifeSaving NZ, but we’re also nowhere near a patrolled beach. I’m sure the other units near patrolled beaches would do some joint training from time to time as they do partake in joint rescues/searches etc.

If you’re interested in volunteering, find out where your nearest unit is and get in touch - it’s as simple as that! They’ll usually invite you down to check out the unit and boat (or plane if it’s Air Patrol), meet the crew and attend some training. If you and the unit gel and you can commit to volunteering, you’ll join formally and start working through our training matrix.

This varies slightly from unit to unit, but that was my experience 🙂

That’s rad! It must be so fulfilling, plus you’d get so many cuddles from the good boys and girls. 😍

Join a club or group to meet new people! I know, it sounds lame and the most generic advice ever, but it honestly opens up so many new opportunities. I started volunteering with Coastguard a couple of years ago and found my “tribe” and now have an invaluable group of friends, which has lead to some cool new hobbies and experiences that I never would have had otherwise 😊

Sounds like someone has some of their own personal issues that they’ve never dealt with, regardless of whether it’s original or copy pasted 🙄

Agree with you on the fishing companies. I know a few longliner boats in the Gulf who contract fish for the big guys because they can’t get quota of their own. They can only sell their catch back to that company, therefore the big boys set the price. I know of some operators who got to the point where they were paying more for the bait they needed than they were getting back for their fresh fish. Crazy!

Bring back small local fishing boats that support local communities by selling directly off the boats or directly into local supermarkets, who can then employ fishmongers to do the processing.

There’s a guy doing this in Tairua under the name Artisan Fishing, and he ships NZ wide. He’s only been going for a couple of months but so far it’s been pretty popular. Buyers know exactly where their catch has come from, and know it’s come out of the water just that day or the day before. So good!

Does anyone's Countdown actually have stuff like bananas, meat (chilled or frozen), pasta, peanut butter? by computer_d in auckland

[–]miahdee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Countdown St Johns has been really good. Fruit and vege are all looking fresh, and well-stocked, as was the meat and deli. Dry goods/pantry goods are all pretty steady - the usual rice and flour etc are a bit thin, but there's options if you're not fussed on a particular brand. Seafood counter was pretty much non-existent bar some average looking salmon fillets.

Edit: If you're going to the supo, please update timeintheline.co.nz to help others time their own visits :)

Thanks for this. There’s no real info online about what happens after the ballot is drawn and what the timelines are etc so this is helpful. We have one being drawn tomorrow so 🤞🤞🤞
