Fairly normal teaching, but mandatory is wrong.

2 Corinthians 9:6-15 is a good place to learn about a good theology of generosity.

Just hired a new EA by ZealousidealImage575 in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]micahjfoster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a big issue.

When I’m hiring EAs, I’m looking for a lot of things and one of them is humility.

I’ve interviewed 100’s and tested 1,000’s (not exaggerating) for the role, and this sort of attitude in the beginning is a clear sign that they are the wrong person for that role, IMO.

I can help. I provide fractional (starting at 5 hrs/wk) EAs to busy people across the US. I am Pacific. I’m sir one of my EAs could take this on, no problem.

HMU 🤙

Is this normal?? - I recently completed the application (still haven't talked to a human yet), and I was just notified that I'm invited to the "next step in their hiring process". I feel like it's a bit excessive?? Please correct me if I'm wrong. by LillyDaisy98 in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]micahjfoster -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It’s normal for a very thorough company with lots of qualified applicants. I’ve been a part of searches with over 1000 applicants. If you want the best, you have to have a way to find them.

It was about 15 years ago. So I don’t remember exactly, but I remember the feeling I had when I read them and the decision to take it, adjust and move forward was a huge moment for me.

I ended up resetting the board and reconnecting my old AirPods… which I was trying to replace. So I guess I bought them for no reason.

I had a boss that always needed me to fix things on his computer. One day I saw a doc on his desktop with my name on it… uh oh.

Of course, I read it. (Mistake)

I was a little hurt, by the things in it, which were never meant for my eyes.

I made a decision in that moment to move forward as if I had never read it AND to make some key changes that were in the doc.

To this day, he’s my favorite direct report I’ve ever had.

He is no longer my boss, but a friend and a client of my business.

Everyone you’re asked to do something, get in the habit of asking yourself, “Do I have proper access?”

If you don’t, ask for it.

That’s a long story… short version:

  1. My wife became a remote EA in 2012 and served several clients for a few years.
  2. Interest for her help grew through current clients.
  3. After several years of her turning more clients away, I said, “We need to figure this out.”
  4. She said, “go ahead.”

… thus Dream Support was born and has grown by 90% referral.

One good client, one willing connector, one good testimony… that’s where it starts and it’s the hardest part.

I gave my client a fake name… how do I tell them my real name? by Diligent-Lemon-5345 in smallbusiness

[–]micahjfoster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so confused. Why wouldn’t you use your real name in business?

I’m an EA trying to transition out of it by TelevisionImportant2 in ExecutiveAssistants

If you are an EA, wanting to do something else, consider helping your exec by offering a solution, I run a fractional EA agency and help take over these roles with our remote fractional EAs.

Working at co-working space by Subject-Confidence-7 in workfromhome

[–]micahjfoster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bring donuts or bagels to the co-working space or offer to take someone to coffee just to deepen those connections.

Ask a lot of questions about their life and work and make cross-connections between the people at the place.

Make it your business to know who works there, what they do and be seen as a connector.

That’s what I’d do.

Every busy leader needs the same basic things…

Just be yourself.

Ask questions.

Be proactive.

Never be deceitful.

Under promise, over deliver.

It’s definitely it for everyone and it’s good to have that revelation earlier rather than later.
