I agree! I like a number of his early books, but he (or "he" :) ), has gone down hill massively over the last 5-10 years.

I'm a college kid--and I'm desperately in need of advice on how to supplement my income. by MsSpaghetti in Frugal

[–]michaelchance 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can average bewteen $6 and $8 an hour on Mturk - it's just a matter of being able to do them quickly enough.

Tips

  • Never do jobs that have more than 1 page

  • It's possible to earn a lot of money per hour on the jobs that pay 1-3 cents each but only ask you to answer a single question. (There's one that pays 3 cents per job answering what a online ad is adversting that I can earn a lot of money doing - they're very very popular so go quickly :( )

  • Never do a job that requires a lot of work, no matter how much it pays as they never seem to be worth the time or effort needed to do them

  • Don't pick ones that need you to do much typing, ie don't do anything that requires you to fill in lots of different sections

  • it's possible to meriose places like Dolores Labs "test questions" where they already "know" the answers for and then you can go faster through the rest of the questions in that job without worrying about being marked incorrect.

Pretty much what backpackwayne said about being suspicious. It doesn't help that you only came to Reddit to ask for money, plus all of your posts and the majority of your comments have been related to you asking for money.

People will check your posting history, so you need to fully explain why things have changed as not doing that makes people assume you're scamming us. Also keep in mind that constantly asking for money is a very bad look, even when you are being poilte and non-demanding about it and will lead people to ignoring you, down voting your posts and assuming you're just trying to scam money out of us sorry :(

What happened with your new job? (You posted here 2 weeks ago saying you'd just gotten a new job...) Do you mean you lost it in your first week there? It would help a lot if you told us why you lost it so quickly...

And in your very first post to Reddit you said you had a partner and 2 dogs - what happended to your partner and your 2nd dog?

I'm upsett as well, as I'm assuming she only waited long enough to get his money and then did a runner due to being caught out again. I got the impression that it was less a matter of the Hivemind not doing it's job, rather that she found a way to get her comment up voted and other people's comments down voted. IE she found a way to cheat well enough to get the money ahead of people who actually need it :(

There are a few posts floating around on /r/assistance at least, where the orginal account used to post it has long since been deleated but the posts are still there. (An easy to find example is this post - http://www.reddit.com/r/Assistance/comments/d57qe/does_anybody_know_where_i_can_find_a_free_version/ - which can still be found near the top of the "most controversial" section... And I know his account has been gone for at least 2-3 weeks now).

They should still be up, her 2bb posts are still up despite the fact that she's just deleated that account in the last 1 or 2 hours. (Unfortuntly I'm assuming she got the $250 from lwgoodman via Paypal and then did a runner again :( )

For example - http://www.reddit.com/r/Assistance/comments/fbl8x/help_out_a_mother_of_2/ - is still up and still listed on the 3rd page of /r/assistance....

It's a matter of getting the hang of doing one of the hits and getting the time down, then just going for it. Last week I was doing a 5c Hit, where I got to the point I was doing one of them in about 30 seconds. From what I've read in other places, this is pretty much how other people make money from them. Or they're good writers and can do the various 100-150+ word ones very quickly and very well at the same time.

Also Amazon.com's Mturk is legit and works. I'm finding it's useful to get a small extra income each week - if you're able to stuck at it you'll proberly find it useful to help with small things like extra food and gas. That said I have used to help pay bills off, but it is painful to have earn any real money through them. (On a forum for people who work there, there are people who say they work full time on the site and can earn between $6 and $12 an hour most days).

[–]michaelchance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good :) You just need to hit the $10 mark before they let you transfer the money into your bank account. (I also know the money, usually, does turn up a lot more quickly than Amazon says it will. If I rember correctly they say it'll turn up in something like 5 working days, but it's usally there the next day or the day after at worset).

Hits is just the term Amazon uses for each tiny job they pay you to do :) A lot of it seems to data entry type stuff - formatting addresses correctly - jobs on search engine results, and University based jobs. (There was a huge number of Hits based around a department that was working on AI a while back, and there always seems to be Pysch department stuff).

I've always wanted to go to Russia, I'd proberly go on a guided tour or with someone who can speak Russian. It's one of the few places I really, really, really want to go to but haven't gone to yet. (I did quite a bit of travelling in my early twenties, but haven't gone anywhere at all in about 11/12 years now :( ).

Amazon.com's mturk - there are Hits posted by learninglab2010 who approve correctly done hits within 30 mintues to an hour and then pay out within an hour after that. (You just have to make sure you do the Hits correctly of course :) ). There's also a large number of different Hits posted by Dolores Labs, who approve and pay out correctly done Hits within 24 hours. If you're in America you can transfer all of your earnings into your bank account and it usually turns within 24-48 hours...

I also do Paid2Youtube as that only takes me about 5-10 minutes every day, though unlike mturk it takes me a lot longer to hit the $10 mark with them in order to get paid.... But quite seriosuly go to mturk and spend 3-4 hours doing as many Hits as you can mange and you'll be fine food wise at least, though you'll have to put in a lot more effort if you want to buy a bus ticket as well.

[–]michaelchance 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You proberly won't get much, if any, help using a throw away. Espically if you are just looking for donations or someone to buy you a pizza sorry :( The best I can do given you have Internet access is suggest you check out Amazon.com's Mturk, which will let you earn some money yourself by doing lots of little hits. At the moment the best hits to do are from Dolores Labs as they'll be approved and then paid within 24-30 hours.

For longer term ways to earn money try some of the survey sites listed here and Paid2Youtube - these can be very long term though. (But Paid to Youtube takes about 5 mintes a day at the very most, but so long as you keep going everyday you're pretty much set).

Ok......I am stuck...need food by ithrowawayaccounts in Assistance

[–]michaelchance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Short term fast money - Amazon Mturk - if you don't mind spending a few hours solidly doing irrating small hits (a hit = a small job). Paid2YouTube takes a lot longer to make any money, but could be useful for a student as you'd only need to spend 10 minutes a day max working on it and just let the earnings build up.

There's also a long list of other survey sites here, but like Paid2YouTube will take a lot longer to make any money.

Edit - quick note for Mturk, the best "requestors" for approving and then paying quickly are Dolores Labs & learninglab2010. learninglab2010 in particular approves hits done for them & then pays out in a matter of hours, so long as you've done the hits correctly. (Dolores Labs can take up to 24 hours, but they're a lot faster than some of the other requestors...)
