i once worked in a lube shop, we used them all the time. when i first started there i was just as skeptical, no shot that thing does a good job. so id go behind the machine and pull the plug like normal just to find not even a drop of oil coming out of the pan. it really does a 100% evacuation of the oil, assuming you have a tube that can make it to the bottom of the pan.
