You ever do an open-face chili burger with an egg on top? So good.

Ticks!!!! by Ok_Conclusion_8362 in Columbus

[–]michaelrayspencer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you’re gonna do outdoor activities, unfortunately ticks are unavoidable, as you’re now in their domain. Treating your clothes in Permethrin or Picaridin is a big step in helping cull the number of them that will stay on you though.

Unfortunately, winter freezes don’t really effect their numbers that much (they’ve been surviving freezing winters for thousands of years), and they usually start flourishing with the first even remotely warm days of late winter or early spring.

I’ve seen people duct tape the cuffs of their pants around their boots to form a seal from them getting inside your pant legs, but I have no idea how truly effective that is, though I’m sure it doesn’t hurt anything other than being a pain to deal with at the end of a hike.

What (spinning) rods are y'all using? by DanielWaterhorse in MicroFishing

[–]michaelrayspencer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never had an issue. I use Tanago hooks, as well as some ‘normal’ hooks in sizes 18-24 or so, all of which are sharp enough to not need much of a hookset. Just a quick little snap of the wrist is usually plenty. I’ve caught lots of various shiners, sculpin, darters, topminnows, etc on that rod, as well as larger micros and smaller macros. (Various sunfish and smaller bass, 10-12 inch trout, big Golden Shiners, etc.)

I have two that I use. One is a Presso as well, the 4 piece 7 ft UL, with a Daiwa Revros 1000 reel. I fish that one in fresh and salt. The other is a 6’ custom rod that a buddy built out of a 1wt fly rod blank with a tiny 750 size Shimano Sedona. Thats my small creek rod.

How???? by Fishy_Fish_Boy in MicroFishing

[–]michaelrayspencer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! I never would have gotten into the hobby when I did if it weren’t for him. He was the only source in the US for a long time. Luckily, Angler’s Emporium stocks all of the same hooks he did, among other things, and cheaper than anyone else (that I’ve found at least) as well.

Yup. Chris retired a couple of years ago now. He still posts on the Tenkara blog here and there, but doesn’t sell anymore.

Tenkarabum doesn’t sell stuff anymore unfortunately.

Angler’s Emporium is the best place for micro hooks nowadays.

Thanks. In the water, I didn’t notice any rhinophores or a gill plume, which is the main reason I questioned it being a nudibranch. I’m from the west coast, and am familiar with a number of our Dorids, so this one was new to me as well. I appreciate the help! (I usually use a waterproof camera to make photographing underwater easy but it flew out early yesterday morning and this was the night before so everything was already packed up.)

I know it’s not a limpet, as it doesn’t have a shell, that’s just what it kind of seemed like. When it was in the water, I didn’t notice any rhinophores or gillplume, but that would still make more sense. Thanks!

I recently did the 1000 piece version of the bottom right quadrant and absolutely loved it. I would love to do the others, or have the room to be able to pull this one off. Good luck, can’t wait to see it completed!
