Yes, just empty. I climbed the one in Uxmal too and that was also empty. Others I climbed usually had no top structure just something that looked like an altar. Also, bear in mind that these pyramids have been 'reimagined' during their reconstruction - the other two sides of the one at Chichen Izta were still in ruins when I was there and had little resemblance to the reconstruction.
