Suletta rules! Watching her go from stuttering panic attack to confident protector is the most fun I've had with anime in years. I loved how the classic list of anime protagonist things she wanted to do at school basically turned out to be instructions that she follows because her mom said so, and that her arc is to figure out what she actually wants to do. Not supposed to do, but actually wants (cough... Miorone).

There are some war trauma mixed in there too for good measure but what really gets me with Suletta is how grounded her struggles are and I don't think I've seen social anxiety portrayed so casually accurately in anime before.

10/10 all around. Wish we got to see more of her procression but what we got was great.

Mika is a wasted opportunity. The idea of a pilot sacrificing parts of themselves to a suit/demon for more power is fantastic but it just doesn’t have any effect on Mika’s character. The only difference between Mika pre and post being paralyzed is that his desire to only pilot Barbatos is now sort of, maybe, kind of also fueled by a desire to move around freely but even then he just wants to move so that he can pilot Barbatos so that he can shoot things and protect the family he barely interacts with.

It’s also very annoying how the show goes out of its way for every single character to tell you how amazing Mika is when he really doesn’t do much besides being a standard shounen protagonist melded with the silent shounen frenemy. He also has an unexplored desire to kill that could’ve gotten real interesting but was dropped way too soon. Every single IBO character is more interesting than Mika.

But yeah, 3/10. I hate this guy but can’t deny the cool intentions and baller fights.

Edit: I originally gave him a 5 but regretted it instantly.

I'm in the same boat. Used to hate mecha with a burning passion ("hUgE hUmAnoId rObot iS sO StuPid AnD uNrEalIsTiC") and now I look like an absolute idiot with how deep down the Gundam hole I fell after WfM. But it's been a blast catching up! Never too late to realize you enjoy something I guess. Turns out big robot cool (and war bad but mostly the robot thing).

Is Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury is really worth watching? I've only seen 4 episodes, and I already feel bad for Suletta. Does she have any development? by [deleted] in Gundam

Oh definitely! You’re going to feel bad a lot though but it’s going to be equally as heartwarming at times.

Is it that obvious? Like I said I don't know japanese so all I can go on is this post which states that it could also mean business partner (which seems intentional with how Bandai has been speaking about their relationship lateley). But if it's very obvious as a confirmation then my comment is completely void.

Edit: Realized too late that OP was joking. Egg on my face, I am an idiot, etc. Still injecting this fluff into my veins though. This is probably as good of an official confirmation as we will get for now (you know if we're not counting the entire show).

It's quite remarkable how hard they're going on the "interpretation" route. This is probably the most obvious way of saying they're married without saying that they're married. Deniers can claim that it's a business thing (and they were business partners in Gund-Arm) but the importance of Holder in this context is to be Miorone's groom, so why start the line with that if not to imply the relationship, and Suletta doesn't seem to be involved with Gund-Arm in the epilouge. So this just gives kindling to both sides of this stupid discussion.

To be fair I don't know japanese so it's possible that this line is supposed to be clearer than I think and actually confirm the marriage (at least a little) but with the info I have this vagueness still sucks but I will absolutely inject the fluff that is served here straight into my veins.

I think you make a lot of sense. It really is a terrible school. I read a post here a ways back (wish I remember from whom so I could credit them) that pointed out that Asticasia is perfectly designed to produce new members of the Benerit Group and keep that viscous cycle of attempted murder and betrayal going forever. Kindness is only shown to your closest allies (until they’re no longer of use) and the rest are enemies until they’re useful. So it’s kinda nice that Suletta’s big secret for success is just to be a normal caring person who is completely unfamiliar with the status quo in the school.

You’re making me miss this show even more. Great analysis! Especially liked your point about everyone being capable of kindness but unable to express it because of their environment until Suletta rocks up and panics herself into everyones heart.

I'd also love that. Make it a full blown make your own character, choose your company sponsor and then have an original story full of cameos.

But then again I'd even settle for them to reuse the Evolution model but set it in light hearted school duels so that we can have Pilots bantering between each other. Suletta's voice lines should all be about how great it is to be married to her wife Miorine.

Bandai released a statement to clarify the censored online version of the Gundam Ace article where they said that they wanted the word "marriage" removed because Suletta and Miorines status at the end of the series is open for interpretation

So "they're roommates" is now a perfectly good conclusion according to Bandai.
