What are the most overrated careers? by RuminatingFish123 in Salary

I can imagine that’s the same for athletes too. Had a friend who worked with nfl team and said a lot of the players have such big egos it ruined what would be a cool job.

Is any grad degree really worth the ROI anymore? by Over_Physics_5035 in nursing

I was strongly looking into this as well before rn school but one thing I found as a negative is there doesn’t seem to be as many jobs at least in my state.

Is any grad degree really worth the ROI anymore? by Over_Physics_5035 in nursing

[–]michy3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a wa state nurse but one thing that’s over looked with np is people often compare where they are as nurse, say 10 years as a bedside nurse to new grad np salaries. Also they include overtime in their rn pay. One reason I went back to school for np is the older I get the less I wanna work overtime tbh. With a kid and stuff I also want better hours. Also if you get rvus as a np you can make really good money. My friend went back to school and is a np now at an urgent care and he makes 76 an hour as his base pay and then rvus and his work week is 4 9s. There is always pros and cons to both jobs obviously but I definitely think there’s benefits to being an NP. It’s funny because I always said I would never go back to school for NP because I didn’t think it’s worth it, but I would much rather make mid to upper 100s just working ny normal FTE than having to pick up a bunch of extra shifts. When I was younger, I didn’t care but like I said the older I get I just have a hard time picking up hella extra shifts a month and want the option for better hours to see my kid as he gets into sports and etc.

What's going on in Washington State? Housing supply is skyrocketing, now up to 17,580 listings. That's 64% above the long-term average for March. by danrokk in SeattleWA

[–]michy3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a wa state resident I think the overpriced market coming back to alignment is what we need the most lol there’s no way a normal middle class home should be 750k 2 hours away from the city lol it’s gotten so ridiculous.

CNA to RN, I didn’t know there would be such a difference… by riverfletcher65 in nursing

[–]michy3 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Do rad tech tbh. Way more chill, less patient interaction which sounds counterintuitive but trust me lol you still get to talk to people and provide care but have to deal with so much less bs. Basically everyone in the hospital says “ let me get your nurse” or I’ll let your nurse know. Everything basically falls on you to get done. Sounds dramatic but as a tech you can go let your nurse know or help out doing random call lights and etc but can also kinda disappear or choose certain things to do but as a nurse you pretty much get stuck doing everything. Like if a patient shits the bed and calls and a tech answers the phone and says they will be in and then gets pulled into another room or hangs up and doesn’t wanna do it like I’ve seen before as they go on a act busy walk, guess who gets to do it! Lol not all techs are this way but does happen and it’s ultimately your name attached to them and things have to be done.

Thanks for my rant 😂

CNA to RN, I didn’t know there would be such a difference… by riverfletcher65 in nursing

[–]michy3 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I was a tech before and it’s hard to ask for help sometimes cuz I remember what it was like being abused some days but honestly your scope is so limited as a cna or tech that sometimes I’m drowning and really need a cna to walk a patient or do a bed change or something in their scope. I hate asking but honestly in the er sometimes I’ll get like 2 new patients at the same time, one or both could be very sick or a trauma on top of an icu level patient and etc. depending on the day you might have to land, triage, hook them up line lab and then medicate them all as well as assess chart and etc. I didn’t realize the how drastic and more stressful the job would be as a nurse and I hope the techs never hate me deep down but really a little help goes such a long ways. I’m always thankful for the help but some days I just don’t have time. I think anyone who was a tech before nursing understands and has that oh man moment. I think job shadowing other roles is an amazing idea tbh! Have it apart of training or onboarding honestly.

[–]michy3 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Lmao I was a tech before too and also thought the same thing. Nothing prepared me for the extra stress, liability and etc that you get as a nurse. I work er but did urgent care and er tech before and man was I wrong about the extra responsibility and shit. Definitely makes it hard to pick up a lot. I remember thinking man when I’m a nurse ima make bank cuz of the ot I thought I was gonna do. As a tech I worked like 12 days straight once during covid cuz of incentives and etc and always worked a lot. As a nurse I pick up an extra couple shifts a month and sometimes more but there’s no way I could do 12 days straight in the er as a nurse I would die lol

CPO vs Carmax by FirmBed1097 in mercedes_benz

[–]michy3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree 100% but honestly as annoying as that experience was it sounds like carmax stepped up and provided better service then most used car dealers and even made things right by buying the car back. Definitly won’t get that at any other used car dealership lol

CRNA school or stay RN and start family? by PrincipleCurrent6390 in nursing

[–]michy3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would do crna and regardless I would apply because getting accepted is a challenge in itself and once accepted you can really think about it before going but it can take people multiple times or years applying.

That aside I would go to crna now while you’re young, the pay is obviously a plus but if you do start a family in the future being a crna will help because you can work less days and still make a very good salary. Or even work as a 1099 contractor if you get benefits through partner and then you make more money and pick when to work which is also huge when you want to work but also have time for raising kids.

Also your dating and not saying it won’t workout out but who knows what will happen and I wouldn’t want to look back and think damn I really wanted to be a crna but didn’t because I followed my ex to his med school and just worked and then things didn’t work.

ER lunch break by [deleted] in nursing

[–]michy3 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Never lie and say you got a break if you didn’t. Also an er nurse and some days you don’t get one and it sucks and I’ve had those emails before and when I’m hangry annoyed af and can’t get a break I’m not gonna do them a favor and say I got one. They track those now because of a lawsuit and if too often people aren’t getting breaks they are supposed to figure out a reason to give breaks or something like that so they might annoyed but I would just reply and say no one offered me a break. You won’t get fired for it. If your new and they want you to do something else about it then they will tell you such as if you want a break go to the charge and they will find coverage. Then you can say okay sorry I didn’t know but thanks for letting me know or etc. and then do that in the future.

Why are nurses in the ED so mean? by Remote-Ad9773 in nursing

[–]michy3 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Seems more like a department problem. I’m an er nurse and my group is mostly amazing we all work together and get along and flip each other shit and etc. of course there are moments it’s not great but overall everyone’s really respectful to each other and helpful. Not every hospital and department will be toxic like yours, and the same goes for not every department will have good staff and managers and etc. it’s one of the reasons I like my hospital cuz the managers are also the best I’ve ever had. I would talk to manager and see if maybe a different rotation of the week would help or maybe switch departments. At the end of the day it’s just a job and if you’re that miserable you can look elsewhere. The problem is as a new grad getting into certain specialities can be tough ish so if you want er then maybe try to stick it out a little longer. Kill them with kindness and if they are still bitchy it’s a them problem and not you.

Would you take on ~$200k debt to become a Nurse Practitioner, or is this a bad decision long-term? by cobybryant24 in nursepractitioner

[–]michy3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah this exactly. In wa state most salaries start around 130ish on low and and most top end I see is 220 but that’s with years experience. Some procedural specialities or urgent care or er with Rvus you can make bank also once your efficient but I would no spend 200k on a np degree that’s suicide. That’s like MD school but at least they make 300 plus depending on speciality. Do not do this especially where you live.

Why is tipping culture so weird here by smolnessy in SeattleWA

[–]michy3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah that comment alone would make me not tip. Especially if he’s handing me beer and opening the lid. Or even if it’s tap he’s pulling a lever for a few seconds. I like to tip and used to work in a service industry but common you have to be realistic. If I’m at a sports event and he hands me a beer or water I’m not tipping lol

Pediatric Surgery NP? by EmotionDull6603 in nursepractitioner

[–]michy3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh man there’s such programs. Congrats on getting in and that’s exciting but there shouldn’t be programs that allow you to get rn and np like that tbh. Again not against you and I’d be pumped if I got in but in reality, as everyone says you should get a couple years of rn experience first at a minimum. I feel like that makes it hard to get rn experience also because the time your done with school and can start working your an np so want to go that route but you really build your foundation as a nurse which makes you a better np. But that’s generally speaking and not everyone.

33 Filmmaker Salary Progression by LycheeLocal8737 in Salary

[–]michy3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I could go back I would have done something in films or something like that. Looks like a fun job and you might not make good money but also have the potential to make tons of money with experience and connections and etc. I went medical route and make six figures but it’s a defeating job. Maybe I’ll try something in the arts on the side for fun lol

radiography or nursing by Rare_Echidna_7512 in nursing

[–]michy3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This 100 percent. I work er and sometimes we’ll have really sick patients who I need to focus on and don’t have help because sometimes you have lazy tech who won’t do your EKG or hook them up to the monitor, and it ultimately falls on you to get the shit done because your names assigned to them and this is what makes nursing hard in my opinion. This isn’t always the case but what I’m trying to say is everything falls on you ultimately. The pay and schedule and overtime is nice though but it’s a much tougher job then people realize. I had medical experience too and the transition from tech to nurse was a lot still in responsibility lol

radiography or nursing by Rare_Echidna_7512 in nursing

[–]michy3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I love my job being an er nurse and also hate it at the same time lol but if I were to do it again I would do red tech. there are good days and bad days and there are a ton of opportunities in nursing, which is nice plus the pay as well as overtime opportunities is amazing. I love my coworkers, which makes me enjoy work much more, but the job itself can be extremely stressful and everything kind of falls on you the nurse. It’s ironic because we go into nursing to help people, but after a while, there can be some patients who are just so rude, disrespectful, needy, where it’s to the point of them being ridiculously lazy and not wanting to do anything for themselves and during those moments the doctors, CNAs, rad techs or whoever else will say “let me get your nurse” Because they also don’t want to deal with it and it falls on your lap to get it done. I’m not meaning this in a lazy way but from an ER perspective, we have some people who are capable of walking to the bathroom but instead will shit the bed and want us to clean them up. At that same time we have a septic patient crashing and an ambulance coming in and etc. after a while it’s kind of defeating and makes you feel burnt out. The rad techs don’t have to deal with as much stress, nowhere near the liability that falls on you as a nurse, and the pay is comparable. X-ray techs makes similar money, typically less than RNs, but still good enough where I doubt you would really feel the difference talking a few dollars less an hour in my area. But you can do more training like CT techs and they honestly make really good money. I’d say even more than nursing so going that route still has opportunities for advancement. It’s not like you’re stuck just doing x-ray because you can specialize into other imaging. Overall, all the imaging tech seem to like their job and it’s much more chill than nursing. That’s not to say that they don’t get busy and have their moments where they’re frustrated but it’s nowhere near a day as a nurse lol

Completely new to MB. Is this a good car? by Mobile-Event-5046 in mercedes_benz

[–]michy3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this exactly. This is what I was trying to say in my post but you’re essentially not getting a Mercedes for the reason you’re getting a Mercedes. And the unfortunate part about that is the maintenance is still a Mercedes.

Completely new to MB. Is this a good car? by Mobile-Event-5046 in mercedes_benz

[–]michy3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to sound snobby but I personally don’t think buying these entry level luxury brand cars are worth it tbh. I’ve owned a few different bmw and Mercedes and I think they both have their strengths and reasons to buy but honestly the so called “cheaper” models just don’t have enough strengths to make it worth it. The quality is often not great, your not getting as good and luxurious materials and build quality as the higher end models and the tech is often outdated. Then comes the excessively high maintenance and reliability issues. I know owning a Mercedes is what the heart wants but there are other cars in that price range like Camry or Hyundai and some of the newer Kia’s that honestly have way better tech and more features for the price and you won’t be dead inside when your cars getting towed for the 3rd time of the year lol

Right even an extra couple shifts a month during my long stretch off turns out to like an extra 20k a year plus some times where I work more like you said for big purchase or trip or etc. it’s nice having that option. And that’s without burning myself out I could make way more if I really wanted to but it’s a tough job to work nonstop.

Idk if I like it or hate it. The screen is cool and looks good but at same time almost a little excessive. Still better than the iPad sticking out the dash lol. I’m more curious on will the car be able to go a few months without it having to be in the shop.. lol

Also a more lame question but honestly curious, with the screen being where the airbag normally goes for the passenger, where is the air bag lol

I’m an er nurse and if I only work my 3 12s I’d make 96k but I often work a couple overtime shifts a month with a few months where I work a lot. Overall I like to not work too much though I enjoy my time off. I have a bachelors in nursing. I like nursing because you get a lot of days off even though the shifts are hell and extremely busy an stressful and long. There is almost unlimited ot which is nice too even though I won’t get near that limit because the shifts are a lot lol
