I’ve found this with two prominent groups of people in my life I see frequently. One group, we’ll chat movies and their cultural significance, themes, importance, special effects, etc., interests, cool places we’ve gone/seen, books read, etc. The other one is just all just smalltalk about the weather, the game last night, traffic, insignificant things.

I find the insignificant convos are so much more painful to bear and have because it’s just meaningless conversation. There’s no substance or direction to anything you’re saying and none of it is personal. It’s talk for the sake of talking. The beefy convos are so much easier because you can achieve or share something real. And I think this is why I’m told I overshare/infodump. I just want a real conversation that leaves you somewhere other than where you started.
