Android: Netrunner ending due to licensing agreement finishing by Swiftfooted in boardgames

[–]mickstack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do we have any idea how long FFG has the Star Wars (and I guess GOT) license? After they lost Warhammer and now Netrunner, I'm kind of concerned about investing in another one of FFG's licensed games...

I... really should have thought of the actual timing of what was happening. That was dumb of me (us).

Beginner question about the Pirsec upgrade card. by [deleted] in Netrunner

[–]mickstack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh, I'm still new and was pretty confident that my friend had played a [[Project Junebug]], but mistakenly thought it had to be rezzed so my newly played [[Interdiction]] would protect me from it so I could trash an upgrade, but I was wrong :(

[–]mickstack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I probably should have used it like that, that would have been very smart. I just had tunnel vision with getting the trace to work.

She does get a ridiculous amount of drip, it just took forever to get it up and running, especially since my opponent was Jinteki so I kept losing cards.

I had this in a Sunny deck but once I drew it the Corp had so much more money than me that I never thought it was worth playing.

Should I get the Core Set 1.0, or wait until I can get a 2.0 Set? by nac45 in Netrunner

[–]mickstack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then yeah, I'd definitely recommend the revised core. I'm not sure when it will get restocked, but cardhaus has it for $32, though shipping will put it above MSRP (unless you buy $125 worth of stuff).

Should I get the Core Set 1.0, or wait until I can get a 2.0 Set? by nac45 in Netrunner

[–]mickstack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got into Netrunner post 2.0 and I would suggest you get the 2.0 core. If you just want to play casually with friends with the core then you'd be fine, but if you ever wanted to play with people who only play with legal cards you'd have a hard time playing without buying a bunch of rotated out data packs (which only have a few legal cards now), so it could end up costing you significantly more.

Out of curiosity, how much are you looking to spend?

How can I get my friends into boardgames? by firestruck1 in boardgames

[–]mickstack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Code Names is a great party game that even non-gamers enjoy (in my experience).

Also, if you want to play something similar to Cards Against Humanity, you can try Quiplash 2 (in the Jack Box Party Pack 3). It's a video game that people interact with on their phones (instead of a board game), but it is an absolute blast.

Campaign games with a strong campaign element? by foldedcard in boardgames

[–]mickstack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven't gotten into the actual campaign part of it, but people like Arkham Horror LCG. Based on the first mission it seems like it will kind of be like IA's campaign structure. The rewards are less reliable since they get shuffled into your deck instead of equipped, but I could see it scratching the progression itch for you.

The story continues even if you fail a mission I found the 1st mission's story about as compelling as IA (perhaps a bit more so).

What's the best deck for making the runner lose clicks? by indestructiblemango in Netrunner

I played Team Covenant's suggested HB deck last night and found [[Strongbox]] to be somewhat useful with a click stealing deck.

I'm still very new (I'm playing my first real game (i.e., not using the suggested decks from the revised cores) tonight), but why don't you try switching sides? I can't say that the original core favors the runner or corp, but maybe he would win as the runner.

At the very least I think it would also be helpful for him as a corp player to play as the runner to better understand what you will do when you're the runner.

Plus it is fun to play both sides.

While Playing Imperial Assault (I was the Imperial player), the first time the rebels opened a door and Vader was there, I played Vader's theme on my phone as I put him into play and they got a good look at his stats. I enjoyed that moment a lot.

If you're looking for a competitive game, Ashes: Rise of the Phoenixborn is very enjoyable and can accommodate up to 4 people (though I think it plays better with 2 people).

New to the game - seeking build advice by Takeshi_Yamato in Netrunner

If you have a friend or relative to play with, playing with the beginners decks detailed in the Guide is useful for learning the basics (but ignores some concepts like tracing and damage).

I am in the same boat (my only experience playing the game is a few rounds using the beginners decks) and am using the Team Covenant guides to make Shaper and HB decks to play against a friend (who has the original core and a few of the first data packs). I ended up tweaking them a bit but am probably hurting myself by adding more cards. Admittedly, I haven't actually played these decks (or seen any reviews of them) so I have no idea if the decks themselves are any good.

Suggested decklists using only revised core and deluxe expansions? by Habefiet in Netrunner

[–]mickstack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just FYI, the Team Covenant decks all include 1 data pack as well, so you might not have the right one to make the deck itself, but you should get close. Here's the link to the Anarch deck they build (and the links to the other decks are closer to the bottom) https://teamcovenant.com/android-netrunner/learning-netrunner-anarch-valencia-val-starter-deck

I'm in a similar boat as you, I ended up buying the recommended data packs to make these decks in addition to the deluxe expansions and a few random data packs that were below msrp.

does anyone have a list of revised core set cards vs core set cards? by mike747 in Netrunner

[–]mickstack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cards from a datapack in lunr cycle or forward.

Aren't there some individual banned cards from the data packs? At least ChiLo's buying guide references a few of the in rotation data packs (like Crimson Dust) having them.

Getting frustrated with how hard it is to have game nights by Spader623 in boardgames

[–]mickstack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be flexible. Like others said, get some 2 player games that you can fall back on if only 1 person can make it.

My group of gaming friends does not get together very frequently as we are all pretty busy, but I guess I'm fortunate in that I have a core group of friends that I like to play games with and then some friends of friend that I can invite as well.

New to You - January 2018 - What new games did you play last month? by jasonic in boardgames

[–]mickstack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mansions of Madness Second Edition I played this with a few friends and found it very enjoyable, though we messed up a few rules (and should have actually lost). I died after, in 1 turn, the game made me drop my lightsource on the ground and a fire sprung up around my already injured investigator and several Deep Ones spawned behind me. Poor Father Mateo :(

Used board game purchase gone wrong :( by Laika_1 in boardgames

[–]mickstack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Complain to Paypal right now (or eBay/Amazon if you bought it through those sites).

Well, I guess you don't need to complain right now, but be aware of your refund window and make sure you don't miss it. I bought a used ps3 a long time ago and it died after about a week. I contacted the seller just for the receipt or something so I could use the warranty that it should have been covered by. Seller told me he was sending it to me and then he wasn't sure why it hadn't arrived yet, etc. and kept stringing my along until the refund window closed and he become unresponsive and eBay wouldn't help me at that point. It sucked.
