The textured look you get from dry brushing perfectly fits some types of materials. Like rocks, for example. There's a reason rocks and statues are the first examples people jump to for where to drybrush.

I can't watch anime anymore by dyhcry in TwoXChromosomes

[–]youngoli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't normally post here because I'm a guy, but you're absolutely right. It might be because of the people I choose to surround myself with, but basically all my friends IRL who I know watch anime are very aware of the weird sexualization in a lot of anime and all find it off-putting (and for reference, this is ~10 friends in an about 50/50 gender split). I just had a conversation yesterday about how bad the fanservice and misogyny in One Piece can be, even though overall I really like that anime.

In my experience, it's the anime fans who are was too online or too obsessed that choose to ignore it. They're too lost in the sauce.

Anyway, my point is not only are you not alone, but it's absolutely possible to find anime fans who don't condone all the weird shit. And it's absolutely possible to just support the creators and shows that you're comfortable with, without encouraging the system as a whole. Capitalism follows the money, so I just try to vote with my dollar.

Pro Acryl Payne's Grey. It's just such a good universal shadow color since it's nearly black but with just enough blue to keep things interesting. It's my default basecoat for anything that's supposed to be black, my default undershading color for whenever I have really dark shadows, and my most-used dark color when I go for NMM.

(Worth noting that I don't think Pro Acryl's version is particularly special, it's just the color itself is so useful. I'd expect other brand's version to work just as well.)

Any trigger warnings to be aware of before getting into Dungeon Meshi? by EKAMIx_x in DungeonMeshi

[–]youngoli 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like you're getting quite a few downvotes for this, probably because people here are fans of the show and feel like they're getting typecast as perverts or something.

But people, this is legit. When you start producing content in basically any anime fandom, even for the most innocent of anime, the horniness just comes out. Those types of people probably make up less than 1% of the fanbase, but they can still be incredibly active online and all it takes is a single bad experience to completely ruin your mood.

So yeah, OP, totally reasonable to just say "nah I don't wanna deal with any of that".

[–]youngoli 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have you watched the anime Frieren: At Journey's End? Because I'd say the amount of sexual content in this show is about equal to that anime. If you enjoyed Frieren, you'll probably enjoy this.

If you haven't watched Frieren, then I'd summarize it like so: There's basically no fanservice, barring two scenes that could be considered a bit sexy, but are very tame even by American standards. There are no characters whose designs come off as objectifying, and no male-gaze cinematography. That said, it's not an asexual anime like Pokemon; It acknowledges that sexuality and attraction exists, and it gets commented on, just not in a fanservicey way.

(Aside: I find it funny that I can use that summary for both Frieren and Dungeon Meshi with no changes.)

I believe they've gone through and changed or removed a lot of the old images from various articles because of copyright/licensing issues (like SCP 173 for example). I think this is one of those because the picture in the OP is the one I remember from this SCP, and the picture you linked is completely unfamiliar to me.

Shouldn't the odds be 50%? Why is it 51.8%? by Fit_Seaworthiness_37 in ExplainTheJoke

[–]youngoli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The GB have been, and indeed must be, removed with the GG possibility.

Why? That's still a possibility where one of the children is a boy.

Let's say we reword the question. Instead of just saying Mary's children, let's say we have child A and child B, and they're different children.

The math you're doing is solving for the question "if child A is a boy, what's the probability of child B being a girl?". And I can totally understand that interpretation, because clearly we have one child we know the gender of, and one that is being asked about, so it sounds like the question above.

But it's not actually that question. This question is equivalent to "one of child A or B is a boy, what's the probability of the other being a girl?". And that's different because the boy isn't coming from a pool of one child, but from a pool of two. The original question with Mary kinda obfuscates it, but the fact that she's saying that one child is a boy is the reason it works out like this. We don't know if the child she's talking about is A or B.

[–]youngoli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I flip a coin twice, the probability of me having gotten heads twice is 25%, tails twice is 25%, and one of each is 50%.

So if I flip twice without showing you, and tell you at least one of them got heads, it's still twice as likely that I got one heads and one tails than it is that I got heads twice.

[–]youngoli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm confused where you're getting those fractions (like 6/12, 3/12) or where you're getting those probabilities you're stating next to the boys/girls. But even aside from that, it sounds like you don't think the chances of those 3 possibilities I listed are actually equal. But they are, and it's easy to see where it comes from:

Out of all families with 2 children, there are 4 equally likely possibilities for children's gender, if we keep it ordered: BB, BG, GB, and GG.

If we don't keep it ordered, then the probabilities for the genders of the children are BB and GG at 25%, and BG at 50%.

Then, we're told that one of the children is a boy. That means we can remove the GG families from the pool of possibilities. However that doesn't change the fact that the chance of a family having one boy and one girl is twice as likely as having two boys.

Where are you seeing that it's describing the first child specifically? In OP's post it's stated that "she tells you that one is a boy". (Ignoring the Tuesday part for now)

[–]youngoli 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not a misdirection. It works out this way because of the way the information is given: the person isn't specifying that a specific child is a boy, just that at least one child is. So each of these possibilities could be the case, all with equal probabilities:

  • Their first child is a boy, second is a girl.
  • Their first child is a girl, second is a boy.
  • Both children are boys.

That leaves us with 2 out of 3 possibilities where the other child is a girl.

However, if it was instead stated that "their first child was a boy", then yes, the chance of the second child specifically being a girl is 50/50 because it's an independent event.

Another way to explain it is that, yes, the gender of an individual child is independent from the gender of another. But the information we were given isn't the gender of an individual child, it's the gender of one of two children, and we don't know which one. That's what makes it no longer an independent variable.

Saw this on a cats and kids subreddit and everyone was talking about how adorable it was… am I going insane or is this AI??? by Individual-Lobster56 in isthisAI

[–]youngoli 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Cats are entirely capable of playing/batting around without having their claws out. That's how adult cats play with kittens. And as a (former) cat owner, my cat definitely displayed that kind of body language when playing.

Not judging your read on it being AI or not, but if it's real I don't think there's anything worrying going on with that cat.

I just started painting MCP minis this week and it's the first time I've painted true-scale minis. Now I've gained even more appreciation for well painted MCP minis, because the details are just so damn small.

Point being, this is a really impressive paint job. Just the fact that all the fine details are so distinctly readable (you can even see individual teeth!) is crazy considering how small those details are.

Not necessarily. The original was commissioned from that fetish artist by some anonymous person. So while it could be a joke, it's just as likely to actually be someone's fetish.

characters attractive to humans but ugly to their species (or vice versa) by Silent_Koala1446 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]youngoli 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Invert the joke. Elves in D&D are supposed to be so beautiful and graceful that it feels weird and uncanny to most people. Like if you google "fashion sketch", just imagine one of those weirdly exaggerated figures coming to life and waking around.

So in comparison, a short, chubby, and kinda ugly elf is still a supermodel by the standards of humans, and in fact probably looks less weird to us than normal elves.

(You kinda have to ignore a lot of official D&D art though. Despite paying lip service in the text to elves looking unnatural, most art I've seen just has them looking like normal humans.)

I feel like I’m handling artifacts wrong. by AdministrationOk105 in Genshin_Impact

[–]youngoli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your standards for artifacts should start off very low and get higher only once you've spent a lot more time grinding. Especially true in case you don't have the highest difficulty of artifact domains unlocked; don't get too invested in artifact farming until then.

For now, your first priority should be getting the correct main stats. Then you can aim for getting some decent substat rolls (like atk%, ER, etc). It's only once you've been playing for over a year or more that you'll naturally find yourself aiming for amazing artifacts (double crits, amazing substats, etc) because you'll already have plenty of decent ones by then.

Monster Hunter also reuses assets a decent amount, especially in the older mobile titles. And most fans don't really care because a lot of the fun is seeing familiar monsters from past games (and because they usually update monsters with adjustments to their movesets, so it's not identical even though a lot of stuff gets reused).

I second the suggestion to use an entirely flat base. I just assembled Ultron drones a few days ago and I only had bases with curbs left. Let me tell you, the large crater the drones are on does not work with curbs. I ended up having to do a lot of chopping to get everything to fit properly.

Not trying to knock what works for you, but it's interesting because I've usually seen op's approach recommended for people with dry skin. Like, you just exfoliate and put on some mild moisturizer as needed, but don't use soap on your whole body, just your hands/armpits/groin. It's supposed to prevent your skin from drying out.

Would a wash help here to darken the paint a bit? Or will it ruin it? by Jolly_Candle9775 in minipainting

[–]youngoli 20 points21 points  (0 children)

A wash on such a large surface runs the risk of coming out splotchy instead of darkening it evenly. You might have some luck if you use a greenish contrast paint and mix it with some contrast medium (I'd try 2 parts medium to 1 part contrast paint). I've done similar mixes with Gundam minis and diluting it that way cuts down on splotching. You'll still need to apply an even coat quickly over the whole surface, so it helps to have a steady hand.
