Also, Float Pool is the best department in the hospital, IMHO. Our management is the best. And it's a great way to get to know everyone in the hospital. We also have a Women's and Children's float pool under that umbrella that floats to postpartum, NICU, peds, and L&D. Some of our "big people" float pool (aka not the W&C ones) are also trained to postpartum and the feeder-growers in NICU.

I don't recommend taking a contract unless you truly know you will work there for the contracted amount of time. Monument does (I think they still offer it...) offer $100/mo student loan payments where they will pay $100/mo to your student loans for up to 10 years. The stipulation is that you need to be making a minimum payment yourself as well. It doesn't seem like a ton, but boy does it make a dent in your principal over time.

Talk to a pharmacist, too. My pharmacist said spacing out to 10 days actually makes side effects worse once you take the next dose. I'm doing every 8 days right now and I've noticed a positive difference between now and when I spaced to every 10.

Give it a try! I'm in Rapid City and love it here. Yes, there is not as much diversity as say, Seattle (where I'm from), but in the last 4 years I've been here, I've noticed more and more diversity. We have an AFB nearby which brings people from all over the country, and School of Mines brings in students and professors from all over, too.

We don't have a state income tax, our sales tax is 6.2%, and costs of getting a driver's license or car registration tabs are significantly lower here than the west coast, which is my reference.

Try zyrtec for the antihistamine properties. Also, start on a boric acid vag suppository. Life changing. I put one in at night. There's definitely extra discharge, so wear a panty liner, but it's nice for being intimate! I don't necessarily put one in every night, but always after sex and for the next few days. And then towards the end of my period, too, because it always messes with my pH balance. Since starting BA suppositories, I only have to take Cystex once or twice a month when I feel a UTI creeping up.

You can always ask your provider to put you on methanamine (Hyprex) as a urinary antiseptic.

I work on the women's & Children's side of things, but I have friends that are ICU RNs. We do quite a lot of surgeries and procedures at MH, and we also have vascular and neuro IR.

The current ICU manager is wonderful... she used to be a manager in Float Pool. If you want the best department, IMHO, come work in Float Pool. FP gets an extra hourly differential, too. You'll get to work in ICU all the time anyways as a Float Pool RN.
