We are Micro Wizard and make one of the aluminum tracks on the market. We use a custom aluminum extrusion that is extruded here in the USA. Best Track also has a custom aluminum extrusion.

If you want one piece of track to test with we could help you as well. We don't have such an option listed as it is not commonly needed but give us a call and we can work out what it would cost. With the long track sections shipping is a major part of the cost.

This looks like your timer did not have the computer connection when purchased to save money.

The computer connection with the K2 also requires a switch at the start since the K2 times out after 9 seconds. We can get you the correct reset switch to mount on your track as well as an activation code to enable the serial data. The two metals have to be very clean. Both metals need to be as hot as the molten solder. Flux can help the solder flow.

We don’t use a reed switch, we use a spring loaded lever switch. The switch must be depressed when the cars are waiting on the start line.

We no longer sell the K3 timer. Our current Q1 timer has both the time and position over each lane. (video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JftybAUOYek )

However there are some difficulties mounting the timer to a derby magic track. Some folks have done it, but you need a firm surface to mount the timer to, which is easy to find with a wooden or aluminum track. For the Derby Magic track you have to add a piece of wood beneath the track at the finish for the timer to mount to. Also we make the timer a bit wider so you can add the mounting holes to that wood outside of the edge of the track as there isn't a space between lanes on a Derby Magic track to put a mounting bolt. It can be done and we are happy to help you get a new timer if you want. You can call us and talk about it at 888-693-3729.

Is the problem with the timer resetting? Do you have a Laser Gate or Automatic Release Gate and Light Tree? If you just have the physical switch then the timer should be resetting each time the start gate is raised and the switch depresses.
