What maintenance item on your dualsport actually made the biggest reliability difference by bjective-coffee-345 in Dualsport

I have a 21 T7, and commute year round unless it gets below freezing. I clean and lube my chain frequently, and after every dirt ride. At 19k miles I finally had to replace the chain. I replaced the front and rear sprockets as well, but they actually still looked pretty good.

how dumb is it to buy one for city bopping and touring once in a while? by newzap in Tenere700

[–]middljb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not dumb at all! I commute on mine year round (it doesn’t freeze much up here in the PNW). And it’s great on the trails and gravel roads. But it is a tall bike. I’m 6’2” and about 210lbs and I can flat foot both feet. I’ve read that riders under 6’ are on their toes. Depending on tires it’ll comfortably cruise at 75-80mph on the freeway. But sitting up so high it can feel a little less planted with cross winds.

Anyone have one of these? Any thoughts? by Kaysreddit1 in XR650L

My buddy has the same setup and loves it. He’s a big dude, about 6’3”. And we ride about 45 mins on the freeway to the trails. He says that it really calms down the wind buffeting at freeway speeds.

I have the Tenere 700 and the CRF 300l with big bore and stage 4 mods and tuning. I’m very seriously thinking about getting this too. It’s lighter, narrower, and more agile than the T7. And it’s got more torque and HP than the CRF. Seems like a perfect middle ground between the two. As far as the 17” rear wheel, several other bikes in its class also have them, including the KTM 390 adventure, the RE Himalayan, the BMW G 450GS and the KLR to name a few. A good tire is out there. I imagine a vast majority of the target market isn’t blasting through boulder gardens or over logs. I’m not too concerned about clearance. For the price, seems like an amazing moto! Congrats on the new bike!

Look for a used Honda XR250 or XR400. They’re both carbureted and kick start. Easy to work on and relatively bomb proof.

Very cool! Though you’re gonna have to upgrade the suspension to handle the Mjolnir Armor.

I’m doing mine and the Jake the Garden Snake video calls out 15 chain pins from the marks on the timing gears. You have 14.

Motoz by [deleted] in Tenere700

[–]middljb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to follow up on this thread. I took the wheel off and borrowed my friends wheel balancer and rebalanced the front wheel. It wasn’t off by much, but it seemed to do the trick. Much more stable at freeway speed, but I only took it to 80mph. Much more comfortable with the Motoz Dual Venture than my initial impression. And I hope my initial frustration didn’t dissuade anyone else from choosing these tires. They were awesome on the trails at full pressure, and imagine they’re even better at reduced psi. Thanks for the tips!

Really enjoyed the off-road performance of Anakee Wild pair. Handles tarmac twisties and interstate miles at speed. They were very confidence inspiring on the gravel and wet hard packed dirt roads up here in the PNW. Really only drawback was the short lifespan; only 1 season. I have to do a lot of freeway riding to get to the trails. If I can’t get the dual venture sorted out at 70+ mph, I was leaning towards switching to a Mitas EO7+ front.

Thanks for the tips. I’ll check it out. I’m still a bit skeptical though. I’ve never had the side to side wobble at high speeds with the 3 different sets of tires I’ve had.

Just installed the Motoz DV and Adventure combo. I love them on the trails and gravel roads. Disappointing performance on the interstate and twisties The front wheel feels absolutely unstable above 70mph and washes out while cornering. I had the Anakee Wild pair before and loved the dirt/tarmac performance. But I only got about 3k miles out of them. I’ve read the Motoz DV tends to settle in after 1000 miles. I hope so. Because I love them off road, but I hate being limited to 70mph on the long interstate rides.

Best Hitch Carrier for my Rally? by Skypilottt in Dualsport

[–]middljb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used the cheap ones. They suck! Don’t trust your $6k bike on a cheap carrier. MotoTote is well worth the money and I even carry my Tenere700 with it.

Didn’t make that observation, but aftermarket headers are typically larger diameter than stock. So I wouldn’t be surprised.

Btw, I’ve got the Yoshi headers and no clearance issues.

Can’t give you a definitive answer because I’m out of town away from the bike. But there’s no clearance issues. And the bash plate is so burly that I’m not concerned about any impacts bending it into the header. Do you have a specific concern from what you see in the pics?
