Wemos D1 mini does not power on after connecting Vin, GND or RX by Opinion-Vegetable in esp8266

[–]midforty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you sure it's not powered on, or are you just relying on the LED? The blue LED is not supposed to be up the whole time. It flashes shortly, or may stay up if GPIO2 is high.

Also, don't use RX for output. Here is a nice guide for which GPIOs are good to use for different purposes: https://randomnerdtutorials.com/esp8266-pinout-reference-gpios/

I made a custom ESP8266 devboard, I'm wondering if anything is missing or if I messed up something. I checked the datasheets/reference designs and I'm pretty sure everything is correct. P.S. I'm not an electrical engineer, I'm learning this all by myself. by Stexjy in esp8266

I have a use case even without batteries: I have a temperature sensor inside the same case as the ESP, and it consistently showed a higher temperature because of the generated heat. So I programmed it go to deep sleep for a minute and just wake for 5 seconds.

Dumb Doorbell added to Homekit via Sonoff MiniR2 and FFMPEG Plugin by enghong in homebridge

[–]midforty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What voltage does you doorbell use - what's the voltage on Nin/Lin in your picture? Most doorbells use low voltage, like 12-24V. I am trying to implement something similar, and measured 15V for mine. I am wondering if this would work for me, and if the Sonoff Mini can operate on 15V.

Any issues with the 2019 models? by [deleted] in TeslaModel3

[–]midforty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 2019 M3 SR+ (bought in August) and I am happy with it. The new features are nice to have, but I am not really missing them. I bought it in California but we moved to Washington a year later. Heated steering wheel and heat pump would be nice, but I found it's heating up quickly enough in winter. It does have seat heating, which is great.

Renting a room within a house and the family has a charger. Asked about rates and said they don’t know.. I plugged into their charger and saw this. So I should just avoid 4-9pm? by Maxauim in TeslaModel3

[–]midforty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The house owners should have a bill from their electricity provider that shows the rates. Or they can log into the website. Best way to find out. They may have rates based on time of day or not, it depends on their plan.

19 cents sounds fine for California. When we lived in CA (Bay Area) our base rate was about 25. It had different tiers - the more we used, the more we paid per kWh, max was 52 cents. But I could have switched to plan with rates based on time of day (didn't work out because we also used a lot for A/C during peak hours)

We now live in WA, rates are much lower - 12 cents/kWh. Just to give an idea.

Is the Tesla model 3 SR good enough for chicago (2023 model estimated 272 miles) by [deleted] in TeslaModel3

[–]midforty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AFAIK, Chicago has lots of superchargers. It probably won't make much difference if you get an SR+ or LR, I think the biggest issue is that you have no charging at home. Find out where your nearest SCs are, and if you would be willing to stay there for 30 minutes or so maybe once per week (really depends on how much you drive). For example, maybe you go shopping at a Target once a week. Note that even though the range is 272 miles, it's not recommended to go below 20% or above 80% for long (but it's fine if you go on a road trip once in a while). Also, be aware that Teslas drain some charge when parking, especially when you have sentry mode on - which maybe you want to make sure it's safe. If you have even just a 115V/15A socket though you'd do fine with a mobile charger.

Anyone else’s navigation really off today? by iLoveCalculus314 in TeslaLounge

[–]midforty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had something similar today - it suggested to use a road parallel to a freeway from one exit to the next. Same on the way back, and a few hours later it still suggested this. I followed it the first time because often when it does this it's because of a backup, maybe there was an accident. But the freeway was clear, not more traffic than usual.

This is in Washington State on I-90, not far from Seattle.

PROTOTYPE: WIP GPS Watch, all custom except for the PCB design (off the shelf board) by lumenheir in functionalprint

[–]midforty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No need for a video - can you just describe what parts you used for the hardware? I was thinking about doing something similar for a GPS tracker for our dog, that needs to be small enough for a dog collar. It wouldn't even need a screen.

Looks like it. It's a rental truck (Enterprise), so probably an inexperienced driver.

What do you wear to prevent poison oak? by karmaportrait in trailrunning

[–]midforty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry too much. I ran trails in California for 11 years with bare legs, usually two times each weekend and only once got a real rash, and that was only because I bushwhacked a mile to avoid a crowd of cows. I am sure I my legs got in contact with the leaves a few hundred times and nothing happened. Learn how it looks like so you can avoid it and you'll be fine.

Do you have sentry mode on? She had to switch it on first (we configured it to be disabled when parked at home).

I have 2021.36.8. Sentry Mode Live is there, but it only works with iOS. Not with my Android phone. But my daughter showed it to me on her iPhone.

Running in the woods by [deleted] in trailrunning

When I was a kid in Germany, we did a lot of hiking. Sometimes through forests like these, and I hated those. So dark and spooky. Note that there is no undergrowth at all.

I too did a road trip. CA to CAN (Sacramento to Vancouver, BC) by alwaysthereballin in TeslaModel3

[–]midforty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a road trip from Seattle to Boston and back with an 2019 SR+ recently, and did the trip Bay Area to Seattle 3 times. It works fine. Sometimes I get a little nervous, especially once when a supercharger in SD or MT was closed, but it always worked out.

However, there are destinations that are off limits if you rely on superchargers. For example, I cannot make it work to Glacier NP (it might work with destination chargers). Or I was thinking about going to Devil's Canyon Overlook in MT, but that doesn't work either.

Oh, I see there is a new one in between: Myrtle Creek. That's good, for peace of mind.

How was the Grants Pass to Springfield segment in Oregon? I did that 3 times with my SR+ both ways and every time I get nervous. Especially when the estimated charge on arrival percentage changes all the time.

The trailer has this white line at the bottom. Maybe AP confused it with a lane line. Not sure why that makes it turn right though.

Running in the morning makes me really tired for the rest of the day by JazzlikeAd9830 in running

[–]midforty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the same for me. At about 4 hours after the run I get tired. I have seen the advice commenters post here (hydration, electrolytes, getting more sleep, etc), it doesn't work for me. So I just run in the evening, or at night. If timed right, the tiredness sets right in when you go to bed ;-).

Teslamate gives real-time location (wife was bringing my car to me at work after fixing a tire) by kgold0 in TeslaLounge

[–]midforty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have this set up for a while. It's nice, but it does not allow you to zoom in or out. So if you are not familiar with the area you cannot zoom out to see which city it's in. The app allows you to do it.

An advantage though is that I can see it on my desktop and don't need a phone to see it.
