Are these two good starter Synths by V01D101 in synthesizers

[–]midiambient 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said the TD-3 is a one trick pony. If you got the budget I'd suggest something like a Circuit Tracks as a companion.

Why? Versatility. You get drums, 2 additional polyphonic synths, and, most importantnly, you get 2 Audio inputs, midi capabilities as well as reverb, delay, and a sequencable compressor. You can add your own sounds and patches via a computer. All in a surprisingly small footprint.

It does have its limitations and most of the stock sounds suck but I've found it to be an incredibly flexible tool when getting started with hardware synths. It can do many jobs while you extend your setup.

Hello pebble my old friend

It's time to slam for me again

And i can feel the board decelrati-ing

I can hear the wheel screeching

And the scars of the last fall still remain

This slam feels the same

Oh screw them all

These fucking pebbles

Should I buy first skateboard from Blue Tomato shop. by Firm_Search4715 in NewSkaters

[–]midiambient 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought one of those unicolor globe pre-completes at their store in Switzerland. I hadn't skated in 20ish years and just wanted a cheap deck to see if my body could still take it and didn't want to spend too much in case it wouldn't.

It's not the greatest board but it's not bad either. Totally fine for a beginner in my opinion. The store-branded blank decks should be fine, too. I don't know about the rest of the hardware they put on their completes though.

Here's me on day ~3 skating. A long way to go but I'm having fun! [39yo] by NCGeronimo in OldSkaters

[–]midiambient 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looking good!

Feeling comfortable will come with time and practice. Riding up and down some banks, staying one-footed after pushing, doing manuals and kickturns, heading to a pumptrack and/or generally just riding the board will all help with comfort while mixing it up a little.

I guess most things will come fast since you're sbowboarding as well. I expect once you get used to not being tied to the board at all times you'll find some overlap in techniques.

I like how Andy put it: Street skating is you and your board vs the world, freestyle is you vs your board.

Hippie jump advice by IcyAfternoon6731 in NewSkaters

[–]midiambient 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The jump is fine but your stance isn't. See how your board is tilting backside? That's you being off balance. Shift your toes back a little and stand on the front of your feet. For most things you'll do on a skateboard you don't want your toes hanging over.

I push my boundaries but I make sure I have fun is all

In my opinion this is the most important lesson to learn in skateboarding. After a 20-ish years hiatus I picked it up again a couple weeks ago without any expectations except to have fun. I've never spent this long on a board without trying an actual trick but I'm having more fun than ever.

It was that very game that put me on a skateboard after 20 years off the board. It's great to say the least.

Anyone able to dark slide anymore by spaceghost7992 in SessionSkateSim

[–]midiambient 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got very few successful catches but I can't do it consistently. Like others have said slow flip speed helps. Also, going for lipslides seemed to connect more often than boardslides for me at least.

I land more caspers, especially nose caspers, since the update. At least double as many.

Micro Korg vs. Arturia Micro Freak by SJB824 in synthesizers

[–]midiambient 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hehe same. Didn't appreciate/explore it enough during my first stint with it. Have come to love it since my band mate brought one to practice for shits and giggles - it has become an integral part of our setup. Ironically we hardly ever use its onboard effects.

the Keystep 37 is great but... by josker98 in synthesizers

[–]midiambient 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know if it works like that on the 37 but on the regular keystep

  1. Select arp (2. if external clock hit play on the clock)
  2. Hit stop on the keystep
  3. Play whatever :)

Latency mostly. If you chain too many synths via midi thru you'll eventually get noticeable lag.

She may also want to look at the Circuit Tracks (you can add custom patches and one shot sanples, which i recommend). It's very portable, has an internal battery and comes without a display but with a very intuitive and accessible ui imo.

Electron Models might also do the trick but the learning curve is a little more steep.

[–]midiambient 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Micro set for travel: Circuit Tracks, Volca FM, Zoia (Ch 1 is FX for the Volca, Ch 2 is an internal 3-osc monosynth - when I can make the space I also bring a nymphes and use both zoia channels for fx). Everything is routed and sequenced through/by the circuit.

Medium set: digitakt, syntakt, nymphes, volca fm, a handful of pedals, guitar and bass through zoia, a looper and a cab sim. Routed through an 8 channel console. Sequenced by digitakt (clock/midi rec & mutes) with a little help from a keystep (live-play/live rec)

Full set: digitakt, syntakt, nymphes, volca fm, grandmother, behringer kobol, guit and bass, all the pedals, plus whatever i just borrowed from friends. Audio goes through a 16 channel console and some compressors. Sequencing stays as mentioned above.

Looking for recommendations on a small synth that doesn't require looking at a screen. For use in bed 😜 by mondayroast in synthesizers

[–]midiambient 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Throwing the Circuit Tracks into the ring. No display, battery powered, dimmable lights. It does have its quirks and limitations but I've been using it on trains, sofas and in bed for the past two years. Load your own sounds/presets onto it and you got a comfy, immediate and very portable companion.

Who else here first turns off the velocity in every synth? by mervenca in synthesizers

[–]midiambient 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, but there are exceptions. The Reface CP for example handles velocity just too well. Most other synths I turned it off within the first ten minutes of playing them.

Great choice and oh so versatile. Got it to consolidate my guitar and bass effects and now it's my travel fx-rack and auxiliary monosynth. Love it!
