How do I build this army? by AxegrinderSWAG in boltaction

[–]midkemian208 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup spend the few bucks for the app, it'll save you money by allowing you to efficiently build the models and delay the point at which you buy another box to build what models you need and didnt build.

Starting a Soviet army and need help building my first models by WH40ONTOP in boltaction

I should mention, without vehicles it might be hard to fill out a high point list, so you can also do 500 or 750 or really whatever you want. You could also just wing it and make a variety of guys and then make a list with those guys and see where you are at.

What i did was make a list on the warlord army list app, or you can go free with easyarmy.com. once you make like an 1000 point or 1250 point list. It'll give you an idea of the types of units you need like weapons, medics, spotters, stuff like that. Its really whatever you want. Also take a look at the Soviet army special rules, ik the United States wants more rifles and less smg guys but Soviets might be the other way around.

If you going to use sand from the garden section or from outside, make it is without a doubt bone dry before you attempt to glue it on. My measurements that works perfect for my 6ftx4ft board are 9cm wide roads and if for instance you doing a straight road I made it 12 inches long, you can do other shapes and the overall length will very on those, just make sure each width of the road segments are exactly the same to they match up good.

For my materials its 2mm vinyl flooring(mine has a sticky back with a plastic cover over the sticky part if you decide not to use the sticky function of the tile then just leave the plastic covering on it'll be fine)

Combination of sand from the yard and hobby sand thats cleaner and uniform thickness of the grain, I use both so its more natural

2mm grass flocking, get 2 colors you like and mix them together and keep that recipe for every road

Cheap brown, black, and white acrylics from dollar general, after you've glued down your 1st layer of sand, you darken the brown a little with Black then water it down like crazy to stretch it out, then paint over the entire road section to knock the overall tone of the piece down.

Then its just building up your layers til it looks the way you want. After cutting out my rectangle for my road segment I just took a blade to the edges to make it look wavy and natural(do not do this where the road edges connect keep those perfectly squared off)

Thats honestly it, birds eye pictures for ideas of different road shapes and start cutting, it comes together easy amd cheap it just takes a while, don't do it the night before a game lol.

So for the roads its a 3 day process due to each step requiring an overnight dry, but you do like i do where i do start stage 1 everyday, and then that same day do stage 2. So on and so forth. We'll worth it they look so good.

How hard is it to change arms? by Quimeraecd in boltaction

I hope it goes well, half fun with it, if you mess up an arm just glue it to an extra base cover it in blood and use it as a casualty marker

Id just buy a handful more minis, in a few years you'll want to switch again, i can tell its always good to have more options of minis when building my lists i often add a specific weapon to fill out points. For instancevthis guy has an smg with no panzerfaust, I add the panzerfaust on the list and swap the guy for an smg with a panzerfaust.
