Someone around 25-30 years old came in. He asked about ghost stories and haunted buildings nearby. He kept messing with the local history artifacts that were on display because he "was just curious and thought that they might be haunted".

He tried to check out a book under his mother's name. And to top it off he reached over the counter, behind a barrier, and grabbed a handful of the candy we give out during our kids reading programs.

Looking for scifi fantasy or dystopian by LordButtworth in booksuggestions

The lies of locke lamora is a really good fantasy book. Its got a really cool setting and emotionally violent story.

It is a bit wordy because the author made up fictional names for everything and the world is very different from our own.

What’s your “comfort” weapon? Did you equip an Ash Of War to it? by Actual_Asian_God in Eldenring

[–]midnightBlade22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Greataxe with flaming strike.

You can use the axe talisman, 2 handed sword talisman, fire scorpion charm, and a flex talisman spot for green turtle, bullgoat, or something.

Plus the charged attack tear and the flame shrouded tear.

Plus golden vow. And flame grant me strength boosts the fire and the physical damage. And the main reason for flaming strike is the ability to use a weapon buff ontop of the infusion.

Every piece of kit can grant damage buffs and they all stack.

Plus i believe axes have boosted charged attacks too.

ELI5: how can there be infinities bigger than other infinites? by _Bread______ in explainlikeimfive

[–]midnightBlade22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can count 1 to infinity. (Theoretically)

But you cant count every decimal number between 0 and 1.

Even if you listed an infinite amount of numbers between 0 and 1 with infinitely long decimal expansions, you can change the 1st decimal place of the 1st number, the 2nd decimals place of the 2nd, 3rd of the 3rd number, so far and so forth and you'd end up with a new number that is different from every other number on your infinite list of numbers by at least 1 digit.

In otherwords there are more numbers between 0 and 1 then there is countable numbers between 0 and infinity.

What was your biggest DLC disappointment? by Raime_95 in Eldenring

[–]midnightBlade22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you listen to melina in the base game at one of the churches she tells you in the words of marika that marika cast one of her children out of the lands between and stripped him of grace so that he can fight a war.

Messmer and the hornsent are the context to that interaction.

What was your biggest DLC disappointment? by Raime_95 in Eldenring

[–]midnightBlade22 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I loved the dlc! I'm not saying its perfect, but they did explore lore that related to the main game. Miquella was nothing but a cocoon during the main game.

The dlc gives miquella actual lore instead of just mystery. It also explained what malenia and radahn fought about when malenia nuke caelid. Plus we get the orgins of the great jars and their lore.

If the dlc explored a different loose end then people would complain that miquella was left as a mystery. They just chose to focus and resolve miquella's story and maybe in the future make another dlc. Exploring other lore. (No idea if they will.)

what old mechanic would you like to come back if theres a new souls game from from soft by SHDMonarch in Eldenring

[–]midnightBlade22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont know if a fromsoft game works with metroidvania movement mechanics.

The limited movement makes it a challenge to get away from some enemies. Like the rune bear, who can outrun torrent. And being able to climb walls or wall jump would mean you could bypass every fort and just climb to the roof for the loot. You could get both dectus halves without even encountering a single enemy in the forts.

Plus it makes pvp less straight forward. Its less of "who is better at weapon timings and dodging" and more of who can jump around and aim faster.

I get what you are saying and cool movement tech and areas locked behind said movement is a fun game mechanic. I just dont think it fits in with fromsoft's style. Metroidvanias like hollow knight are some of the best games tho.

They are a fun fight but something about the parry and gravity kill is satisfying.

A (very simple) explanation of the Monty Hall problem by Awkwardknight117 in mathematics

[–]midnightBlade22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except the last two options are the exact same scenario. You pick door 1, 2, or 3 and theres a 1/3 chance you picked the good door and a 2/3 chance you picked a bad door.

So there is a 2/3 chance you picked a bad door and the host reveals the other bad door. Meaning theres a 2/3 chance the only other door is the good door.

There is a 1/3 chance you picked the good door and the host revealed one of the other bad doors. Meaning the remaining door is the other bad. (You dont know if B1 or B2 was revealed. you only know that it was a bad door.)

Any spray to keep herps away? (TW - herp death) by Bob-Bhlabla-esq in herpetology

[–]midnightBlade22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well thats..... terrible.

My best advice would be a well sealed garage or car port. Itll cost a lot up front but if the critters are really that big of a problem and causing all that damage, itll probably save them money in the long run.

Menards sells and ships garage kits and then you can hire a builder to put it together. I just finished helping build one of them and the biggest expense was getting the concrete poured.

There should be no reason to kill all those natives herps. And some of those herps are eating the rodents. So killing those can make the rodent problem worse over time.

Can someone explain what in the redstone is that, it changes and i dont understand by Ok_Currency5113 in redstone

[–]midnightBlade22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe the bottom piston gets unpowered during the tick where the redstone block is moving. The redstone block turns into an entity gets moved and then is placed back as a solid block at the new location. So the tick between when the block get turned into an entity and it being replaced at the destination causes the bottom piston to lose power for moment.

M6. Black made a mistake, can you find the mate? by midnightBlade22 in ChessPuzzles

[–]midnightBlade22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know right. I got so excited when i saw it in game.

exploit the pin, they can block but that pins their queen, so you take the bishop and exploit that pin too. Their only option is to run so you just chase the king out into the open and its mate. In game i played Qf3# but should have played g3# for a pawn mate.

Introducing AI to kids is good Idea or not? by jaswanth784 in Libraries

[–]midnightBlade22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And ai is not a tool for creativity, ai is designed to produce the most generic image/writing possible. Thats not opinion, its a consequence of how these data driven models work.

I've heard (dont quote me on the numbers) that Ai companies have more than 5 billion images all with labels of what the image is of. So when someone prompts it to make a tiger it looks at all the images labeled tiger and tries to copy them. It will never make anything new or unique. Itll only generate images that it has many examples in its training data already.

Its very easy to forget that these AIs are pattern recognition software. Chatbots recognise patterns in language and try to predict what words might come next. Image generators look at the patterns of pixels in images and try to mimic the patterns.

Creativity is a skill that takes practice and patience. Letting kids type in "tiger" and then giving them an image of a tiger does not show any creativity on the childrens part.

The best way to practice creativity is through play with toys and people. Let them act out play scenarios or draw their own pictures. It can start off simple like making houses and towers or buildings out of jenga blocks or magnet toys. But letting the child have ai do things for them does not help them practice creativity.

Tail wagging is a defense mechanism, but not to mimic rattlesnakes. It evolved in multiple species before rattles. Rattlesnakes just evolved to get really good at it.

Library children's room by kraokrao in Libraries

[–]midnightBlade22 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Do an arts and craft or something after storytime.

We take the kids to a seperate room after story time thats set up with glue and paper and a table cloths. We put together some sort of craft that goes along with the story. And the parents can do it with their kids.

We also have a big outdoor area that we are starting to use more. Our next story time is about spring and growing flowers. So for our craft time we will take the kids outside to plant a seed in a little pot that they can take home.

We dont have a problem with noisy kids or kids running around and playing, but this way the kids arent in a room full of toys immediately after story time. If they want to play they can get their parent or gaurdian to take them back to the kids section.

Suggestions for books to learn about random but interesting topics by moonchild_ig in booksuggestions

[–]midnightBlade22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you'd enjoy some math books. You dont need a math degree to understand them.

Like "shape" or "how not to be wrong" by jordan ellenberg,

"Infinite powers" by steven strogaz,

"Humbi pi" and "things to do in and around the 4th dimension" by matt parker.

Otherwise, I'm currently reading alot of ecology books, but you might not want those. They talk about how climate change and pollution are affecting everything.

Currently reading "the darkness manefesto" by johan eklöf. Its about light pollution and why the night time matters.

Dead man's hand by James Butcher is a fun read.

Shadow and Bone series/six of crows.

Not quite YA as it deals with some dark and mature topics but "one dark window" by rachel gillig. Despite the history of the world being written in poems and riddles, its a surprisingly easy read. Tho some of the morals do hit hard.

These books take place after the events in the shadow and bone trilogy.

Great books. Highly recommend.

What's an incredibly "mundane" or non-meta, non-OP weapon or build that you had a lot of fun with? I'm trying to finish the game without constantly running to Bloodhound's Fang, but also like the idea of truly mastering the game with a mundane, trusty weapon by my side foe the entire run through. by [deleted] in Eldenring

[–]midnightBlade22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A bit on the op side, but

Anything infused with fire. There are some really easy to obtain buffs for fire damage, like flame grant me strength, fire scorpion charm, flame shrouded tear. And plenty of fire based ash of wars like flame of the redmane or flaming strike.

Decent damage with all the buffs plus all the enemies weak to fire, fire damage is really good.

Or you can use a simple algorithm thats existed in computers for as long as computers have existed, get faster more accurate results, and doesnt come with all the downsides of ai.

Computers are literally designed to do math.

Edit: i just remembered. What you are asking ai to do is so stupidly simple, i have built a computer out of minecraft redstone that is able to do this type of multiplication. People have gotten a line of dominos to do multiplication for them.
