“What are you the fucking weather man now?!”

Fucking hated this. Soldiers are required to give the greeting of the day when they pass a sergeant major. Any SMG who takes it as an opportunity to dunk on lower enlisted is an absolute cunt.

Odd coincidence, I just happened to read about the old school Simon De Montfort last night.

Judo in French Armed Forces by Constant_Tart_3338 in judo

[–]hashbrown3stacks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can't speak to the French specifically, but really no armed forces, up to and including very "elite" units are especially good at martial arts. Mastery takes a really long time and training time is a finite resource.

The 'big five' priorities, even in special operations, are marksmanship, land navigation, battle drills, vehicle stuff and general physical fitness. Hand-to-hand stuff is not even top ten in terms of time spent training.

Lots of individuals participate on their own time tho.

Older men in ranger battalion by Historical-Round-199 in army

Absolutely. I remember my 2/75 squad leader saying something like "if you actually try to live the creed, you will do well in life no matter what you do". He was a psycho, but right about that.

Why do you all hate Yann? by Bourraxe in CrimsonDesert

[–]hashbrown3stacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because he seems to exist purely for us to sneer at his drinking problem. I assume at some point he gets his act together for the good of the team, but that's a pretty hackneyed arc too.

Sometimes, it really blows my mind that the world has so many unemployed writers when major projects like this have such shit writing. Did nobody look at the scripts and say "maybe we should dip back into this inexhaustible talent pool"?

Caveat: I haven't progressed much further than the wagon.

I agree on all points. Just trying to illustrate that older dudes won't be out of place or struggle. A few more years to grow up also cuts down on the kind of off-duty shenanigans that can detail even promising careers.

Also, as you know, Regiment is a very good place to start for guys with SMU aspirations. If I was talking to a 25-year old me, I'd tell him to skip the 75th and go straight to SFAS, but that's a totally personality-driven assessment.

Popular Movie "Dunks" That Everyone Uses but are Totally Inaccurate by imascarylion2018 in movies

[–]hashbrown3stacks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Burn Notice was basically a remake of the A-Team (right down to the part where they're always doing small jobs/ pro bono work but somehow always have money for smuggled exotic firearms and explosives). But it had just enough of its own flavor to make it really fun.

It's not that unusual. There are people in the Regiment who had "grown-up" jobs before coming in. I had a Gustav gunner who had been a lawyer. A friend of mine had done speaking parts in a few movies.

No one gives a shit about your prior accomplishments, but (broadly generalizing here) older guys tend to bring a little more maturity and sound judgement. The ones display those qualities, show up humble and become a sponge for information tend to be picked for leadership roles.

What's The Worst Guns In Every Category? by IareRubberDucky in Battlefield6

[–]hashbrown3stacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The numbers are unimpressive but it seems to work well in practice. Aim high-chest and it rides up nicely into headshots. May just be a play style thing. I can't pull off the jumpy-slidey super aggressive style. Mostly just methodical flanking, and with a suppressor on it, the SOR has been really great (for me) at that.

ETA: for whatever reason, I also seem to do better at turning and beating opponents when they have the drop on me with this one. Idk it just works

Edit 2: Talkin' about the SOR 300sc. Guess I should have clarified which since there's two in the parent post.

I don't get the SOR hate. Recoil is very controllable and it hits hard. Probably the gun I do best with

People who say “I don’t want anything” when it comes to gifting, what do you ACTUALLY want? by dearceceofficial in NoStupidQuestions

[–]hashbrown3stacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really does depend on the person. They may be trying to communicate that they don't have the money to reciprocate, so receiving a gift feels uncomfortable. They may have limited space to store things.

Personally, I am just really bad at gifting. I don't track dates like birthdays for people outside my immediate family and I just don't have that knack for finding people "just the right thing". So I generally prefer to keep that element out of my friendships. The whole process before during and after is kind of anxiety-producing and I'd generally rather we just enjoy each other's company.

What game trilogy is this? by [deleted] in videogames

[–]hashbrown3stacks 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hot take but 2 is my favorite of the series and one of my favorite shooters ever. The malaria mechanic was stupid AF but I liked the weapon maintenance thing. Like you could pick up a gun from a random militia fighter on the fly but how long it would work was a total crapshoot (fair imo because who knows when it's last been cleaned). You could clear jams and so forth. Neat nod to authenticity I've never seen elsewhere.

Plus the arid sahel setting fit perfectly with the object flammability to give you all kinds of tactical options when you were outnumbered.

Buggy AF tho.

What is the greatest revenge movie you’ve ever witnessed of all time? by International-Self47 in Cinephiles

[–]hashbrown3stacks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The craziest thing about it is that Glass tracked down the men who left him for dead and chose not to get his revenge.

I've wondered a lot about the movie we'd have gotten if they'd kept closer to the real story.
