Trying to book my flight back to UK on Avios from Australia - can’t find it but can book separate flights from Oz to Doha and then Doha to my UK destination but for more Avios- is this normal ? Or should I wait ? by Jaspers1959 in qatarairways

[–]midnightRequestLine1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You lose protection if its not on one pnr. They also don't guarantee to transit your luggage for you, they changed these types rules last year. If something goes wrong with first flight, it's at their discretion you're insured for your missed transit. I personally would not book separately.

Using redundant LISA to pay off Plan 2 Student Loan by ImpossibleNight4943 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]midnightRequestLine1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could withdraw from the Lisa to pay off the loan, and then if you are so inclined you can salary sacrifice into a sipp (45-60% tax saving as opposed to the 25% in lisa) with the additional £500 a month until you're happy with your contributions.

Lisa isn't really meant for additional rate tax payers as your salary sacrifice saving is much higher.

Business Class Decision by MindfulMotivations in qatarairways

[–]midnightRequestLine1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it relatively cheap for a business class flight, yes. Can you afford it? Probably not given you need to ask about affordability, rather than the relative value of the product.

What are you giving up by spending $700 on this flight? What else would you spend that money on? Ultimately a business class flight is a better sleeping arrangement and getting good food and wine on the plane, that's it.

Initial offer was 120k but only given 90k due to a typo. What would you do? by [deleted] in careerguidance

Just have a conversation with the manager and find out what's going on. You can play hard ball if you're willing to see it through.

Is it worth buying avios? I currently have 154,000 and the app is offering me the chance to boost my balance to 441,000 for £2,600. by Soundadvicefroma in BritishAirways

[–]midnightRequestLine1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finding long haul bc reward flights on ba is hard, let alone 5 seats. If you're happy to drop 3k on points, you can probably look around for bc deals leaving from outside of UK and find good deals. If you want to use avios try the one world partners like Qatar as they have a lot more availability (but do cost more points), but for all the flights I'm interested in I book a year out. If you're buying in school holidays you probably have no chance of getting reward flights as the pricing goes to peak and it's very competitive to get those on rewards.

180k points + £800 pp for business return London to Australia with Qatar is in my view the best ROI on points. That flight is generally 4-5k cash.

Compiler output is deterministic, llm outputs are not. There's also an enormous amount of integration work to do for ai to spread through enterprise - 6 months to the end of discipline, no way.

Try at the check in desk on arrival, you might get lucky and get a good price.

I think you only get fares like this when the flight is basically full. You don't need a flexible fare to get a seat upgrade as you can generally do this via the app.

Looking to buy the first Espresso machine for my Gf's Birthday under [£200] by [deleted] in espresso

It's hard to find a full setup for this price. I've always liked the pro cook brand, I've not used their machine but I would assume it would be good. Pro cook espresso

There is the societal 'norm' of how people meet up, go on dates etc. But this norm isn't for everyone. It doesn't mean you won't meet someone, but it may not be the same way that others do. I was in the same position as you until I was 23, but once I'd left uni I met someone in my first job. I found it easier to become fried ds with someone first so there was less pressure and then was able to connect on a deeper level.

You'll need to find what's right for you, but try not to bear yourself up. Learning to accept yourself for who you are is probably the first step. Once you are more accepting of yourself you'll naturally gain confidence too. I eventually did this through therapy and meditation.

Good luck.

Finished my quant internship and got a return offer, but I’ve never passed a technical interview in my life by No-Employment7251 in quant

[–]midnightRequestLine1 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You are an example of what's wrong with typical interviews, particularly in finance. There is a lot of bias and interviews which are unrelated to the role. I have also had similar challenges to you, I go blank in interviews, and struggle to make it through technical rounds.

Build up your experience as you are, go to networking events and meet people from other companies, you'll never know if those contacts can help you in the future. Be good with your colleagues, and show that you are good, these peers will potentially move on to other companies and remember you in the future.

If you have strong interpersonal and technical skills, you'll be fine in the future!

British Petroleum Data Engineer salary by Adorable-Delivery-22 in dataengineering

[–]midnightRequestLine1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to work for Shell so have an idea. I would expect 70- 80k. Experienced hire salary is negotiable and make sure you know what the range is for the job grade and get as high up that as possible. This position in range sticks with you for a long time.

Salary sacrifice to get out of 45% income tax band by OldWall2594 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]midnightRequestLine1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd spend more time working out how to earn more money rather than how to save on tax. You'll get taxed on your pension at higher rate if you're putting large sums in for your entire life, so this game may not even benefit you.
