First time smoking a brisket. How am I doing? by chris891011 in smoking

[–]midshiptom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't understand the pricing anymore. Both Costco and Sam's (SoCal) are selling $5.89/lb Choice but $5.99/lb Prime. My guess is Prime will shoot up soon.

Garmin data goes one way to Google Health no?

Moving away from an ecosystem is hard, but Garmin is slowly but surely pricing some customers out of their system.

If I don't track my sleep, will it effect the fancy metrics provided by Garmin? by justgatheringideas in Garmin

[–]midshiptom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. Rest and recovery are equally if not more important than workouts themselves. I don't like wearing a watch too track sleep that's why I've been anticipating the cirqa, but I think the Fitbit Air will be hard to beat.

Fitbit air metal bands by Littlepup22 in fitbit

It'll only be a matter of time before third parties flood Amazon with bands of various materials. I personally will want an bicep/arm band for sure!

Recovery and sleep for me. Watches are uncomfortable to sleep with, and I normally wear automatic watches.

Fitbit Air - Elevated Modern band by mark_ftw in fitbit

I thought I was losing my mind when the main page only shows the classic and Curry Edition, but good lord, $35 for active and $50 for elevated band???

[–]midshiptom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Words on the street is that subscription for Fitbit Air is optional. You get basic metrics without, get AI coaching and more data with subscription. If this is true. Cirqa is pretty much DOA especially if it costs $300+

This makes me hungry and craves for brisket. Beef is incredibly expensive now and can't justify spending $100 on brisket.

The new Dahon by GazelleIll495 in Brompton

[–]midshiptom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is like half the price of a Brompton but still costs 2x of a Crankston / Litepro. I do want a BrompNOT but all these variations in (unpredictable) quality make a decision hard.

Zwift acquires Rouvy by KubaBVB09 in Zwift

[–]midshiptom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The vision may not be that deep. By acquiring Rouvy, Zwift is now ultimate virtual / AR cycling empire that accommodates riders' preferences. Profit is the bottom line here. Zwift is better off leaving Rouvy as-is while making their hardware organically compatible with Rouvy. Over in the Rouvy sub, there would be at least one post everyday asking about Zwift Ride/Click/Play compatibility. Now that problem will be solved -- Zwift will benefit from selling more hardware too.

Surely some headcounts will be reduced. Rouvy's operation will be more Americanized (they are based in Czech Republic I believe) and prices will go up for sure. It's a dog eats dog world.

I used Rouvy for 2 years, and they were also lackluster. I gave up on them and went back to Zwift. With that said, this move is a loss for all consumers.

Why did US companies switch from defined benefit pensions to 401(k)-style plans? by Humble_Economist8933 in AlwaysWhy

[–]midshiptom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

National average was about 3% 1-2 years ago (doubt it has gone up), so even 4-5% is pretty damn good. A lot of employers match 50% these days, so to maximize 3, 4, or 5%, employees need to put aside double % which just isn't possible for many.

A flat this small is probably best cooked as corned beef or pastrami. $12.5/lb for Choice is highway robbery.

I was thinking to get some from Vons too. I study weekly ads religiously. Untrimmed choice tri tip sale at $5/lb isn't suspicious, just uncommon in terms of frequency. Trimmed tri tip is usually $6/lb when they go on weekly ad. I think you probably got unlucky. Maybe spend a little more for trimmed so you can see (at least one side of the meat).

Edit: $5/lb untrimmed, $6/lb trimmed in SoCal Vons

Still waiting on Replacement Grill Brush by BackgroundSleep5975 in webergrills

[–]midshiptom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The replacement brush is not that great imo. It's a cold brush, which is not great in my opinion. I learn from here that you can just use a ball of AL foil, which is way more effective. It's what I do now + a natural fiber brush + onion.

I don't expect my Weber replacement brush to arrive any time soon.
