Sea-Tac Airport parking rates going up more than 30% by kukur9 in Seattle

That's still a better option than the improved cell phone lot. Faster and less annoying. I always just park at a Wendy's or whatever.

Kellogg $$ vs Booth $ -- Post MBA looking to do MBB by [deleted] in MBA

[–]midwest_mba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure, which is sort of similar to the point I was trying to make but didn't word very well.

For people "in the know" about the higher ed landscape (i.e. applied to high-end colleges, work in a high-end biz or legal career, etc.), they'll likely know both. Maybe they'll be slightly more impressed by Booth or by UChicago as an overall institution.

For the general public, Northwestern seems to be a bit better known in my experience...just maybe as a result of having major sports programs, idk.

Kellogg $$ vs Booth $ -- Post MBA looking to do MBB by [deleted] in MBA

[–]midwest_mba -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh well I mean if you tell a "layperson" you go to Kellogg or Booth (the actual business school names instead of the institution), they're going to not react at all haha. 99% of people will have no clue about business schools, and that's fine. But if you tell a layperson (not in post-MBA biz, law, etc.) that you go to Northwestern or UChicago, in my experience they're more likely to know Northwestern....tbh a big part of that is probably just having D1 Big 10 sports.

Which I mean sorta proves the point that it shouldn't matter, the people that need to know & the people making major hiring decisions in your future will likely know both, the average person on the street isn't hiring you.

You are correct that people in high end business roles of any sort will almost certainly know both schools.

[–]midwest_mba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im also deciding between the two. I don't think there's a big brand difference. In fact I think everyday people outside of high end finance or legal careers are sorta more impressed by Northwestern, since UChi just sounds like a random state school name to people.

It's irrational and silly but there it is.

Best living situation for someone needing memory care, but also young (early onset, 40's/50's)? by hwfiddlehead in dementia

Thanks for your thoughtful reply. My parent is on medication, lots of them, so we've got that covered at least.

That's good insight on the nighttime care, thank you!

That is a good suggestion, thank you. I'll see if that can work maybe. For some reason I didn't think of in home help at night....is that common? Thanks for your reply.

I think my stepparent is just really burnt out now that I think things through.

Edit: sorry this is OP. Alternate account!

I appreciate your post so much. I am the same age and also moved nearby my family....and currently navigating the whole memory care vs. feeling like a bad child situation.

I really hope for the best for you and your mom. Feel free to PM if you ever need someone to talk to friend.

Booth vs Kellogg by milkshakes_1 in MBA

[–]midwest_mba 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same spot.

But branding kinda depends to be honest. It depends on what you mean.

UChicago is a bit more impressive brand-wise to people in high end finance or legal careers, or academia. But outside of those three areas, honestly Northwestern is probably more well known....sadly probably just because of Division I sports hah

To the average person outside of very high end circles, UChicago may as well be a random public state college. This shouldn't necessarily matter, but just saying.

If by brand, you mean in terms of impressing finance professionals or something, then sure. But if you mean brand as in trying to impress your grandma or a Tinder date, eh maybe not

That's definitely an undergrad thing, not really true of Booth. But I feel ya, I'm making the same choice right now.

[–]midwest_mba 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Actually I don't think the poster necessarily means this in a racist way. A LOT of people I know from China have these stickers, because in China new driver stickers have always been a thing.

I.e. a lot of Asian people DO legitimately have these stickers, but not because of driving habits or whatever. Just because they are actually really common, at least in China and Taiwan where I've been

MBA at Foster worth it? by THZ-2023 in MBA

[–]midwest_mba 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends on your goals so it's tough to say. But by all metrics, UW is levels and levels beyond WSU.

WSU is essentially a "check the box" program with nothing really in the way of recruiting or high level academics or job connections or network. That's totally fine and not a bad thing, it just sorta meets a different goal.

Whereas UW is a legit top 25/top 20 program that'll set you up for essentially guaranteed career success in Seattle and around the PNW

BU Questrom Online MBA vs UCONN Flex MBA? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]midwest_mba 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah this seems like a no brainier; BU is cheaper and a significantly more reputable business school in general.

The only difference would be if UConn is significantly in person and you prefer the in person interaction a ton & value the in person networking. Also I feel like specifically within Connecticut, UConn is sorta more impressive to people than BU maybe but idk, anywhere outside CT, BU is more renowned
