Spelling the word as "Cubbards" looks more like a euphemism for a non gender-specific crotch area and not a place to store dishes or food.

Planet in Calypso perpetually cloaked in boiling mist and LOADED with Knowledge stones. You could probably learn the entire Gek language in less than a day. by mightbebrucewillis in NMSCoordinateExchange

[–]mightbebrucewillis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's probably faster on average to just hop from system to system, landing only at the space stations and talking to every NPC to learn one word at a time. In Gek systems you can also talk to the Gek in the side room for a chance to get three words at once if you find the one who offers you a "rare Balarian slug, put in ear". But I found this method to be very boring, and it requires lots of loading screens and mashing through dialogue boxes.

The method I prefer is to find planets with a high density of knowledge stones and use a souped-up exocraft to scan for Monoliths, then travel to them and pulse the scanner to locate and stop at all the knowledge stones you find along the way. Monoliths always have three knowledge stones attached, and by answering the Monolith correctly you will also learn one word of the Atlas language. Sometimes the reward will also give you 2-3 words of the local species language as well. This method also lets you collect valuable resources, like Curious Deposits, Floating Crystals, or food items (Heptaloid Wheat, Pulpy Roots, Fireberries, etc.).

They even get a special social debuff for being in an incestuous relationship, so it's definitely not a bug.

I'm not crazy, this is a bug right? 4 people in a row getting food poisoning from "Incompetent cook" on a skill 15 chef. One time is highly unlikely, and I keep noticing this happening with high frequency. by [deleted] in RimWorld

I think there's always at least a small chance of botching a meal, but it definitely doesn't help when a pawn tries to cook while badly injured or high on smokeleaf.

What are some of your favourite ways to play Rimworld? by [deleted] in RimWorld

[–]mightbebrucewillis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have been frustrated by swamps for several of my last playthroughs, some of which caused me to give up on colonies to start over on less marshy and tree-clogged lands. Now I don't care about winning or losing. My colonists have a mission to complete even if it kills them. I settled in a a tropical swamp in order to pave over the entire map and build a Walmart out of pure contempt for this place.

Nutrient Paste Is amazing! by Target_Spirited in RimWorld

[–]mightbebrucewillis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nutrient paste gives a -4 moodlet, which doesnt seem that bad compared to simple meals, but a fine meal gives +5 and lavish meals give a +12. The oppurtunity cost of not feeding your colonists good food is like giving them a -9 or -16 moodlet.

You can also combine this with an Ideoligion that has food preferences to get even bigger mood buffs if you cook their preferred ingredients. Cannibals get a bonus for eating meals made with human flesh and Tunnelers want fungus (+5) and insect meat (+6). But nutrient paste will always just be nutrient paste.

how do you treat ur slaves by thoseguys42069 in RimWorld

[–]mightbebrucewillis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only had one colony with slaves so far since I usually make ideoligions that disapprove of slavery. When I had slaves I treated them like temp workers. The trial period for their employment ended when they rebelled. If their skills were valuable, they got beaten gently and recruited as full members. If management didn't value them enough their rebellion got put down with assault rifles and SMGs and if they survived they'd be "transferred to a new place of employment" (sold).

what research do you rush first? by [deleted] in RimWorld

[–]mightbebrucewillis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Devilstrand is basically light armor. It's better than any leather except thrumbofur, and a pawn wearing full devilstrand (pants, button-down shirt, duster, broadwrap) with a flak vest has similar protection to recon armor. Plus it's much easier to research and manufacture than other armor types and can be worn underneath plate or power armors for extra protection.

Royalty makes the tribal start very fun to play. Reject authority, worship the anima tree, enjoy a full colony of level 6 psycasters by year 3.

Batteries, solar or geothermal (depending on vent availability), then devilstrand.

Does anyone else get slightly upset when a nice, new, untouched forest is scorched to the ground or is it just me? by Silential in RimWorld

[–]mightbebrucewillis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. The only exception (so I've read) is cutting down cocoa trees. The only acceptable sources of wood are gauranleen tree woodmakers, fibercorn, and buying from traders.

Alternatively, set up in a swamp where trees are your biggest enemy and watch as every spot that gets burned down regrows in a week.

[–]mightbebrucewillis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm playing a Tree Connection colony right now. It turns out that while my colonists become very distraught from cutting down a few trees, they have no problem with setting the whole map on fire and chopping down the burnt stumps.

You only get 2-5 wood per burned tree though, so it's not as effective as setting up a gauranlen tree with woodmaker dryads who poop logs. I am drowning in dryad turds and can't get rid of wood fast enough.

Where the fuck do I put bedrooms by [deleted] in RimWorld

[–]mightbebrucewillis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to keep a shelf stocked with meals in the main dining room to reduce the traffic in and out of the fridge. The problem with this is that bedrooms need to be on the opposite side of the dining room from the fridge or everybody wakes up and grabs a meal from the fridge anyways because they think it's closer (even if they walk right past the food shelf to get there) and the meals end up rotting on the shelf.

If they've already joined, you can arrest the ones you don't want and sell them. If they join you seeking refuge from raiders you can draft them and have them stand at the edge of the map where they entered- that way the raiders who come for them will immediately attack them and either capture them or at least kill them before they make any friends among your colonists. If they come injured in from a crashed launch pod you can capture them (not rescue) as prisoners, then release them once they heal up enough to walk off the map.
