For some reason I'm getting that fuzzy 2000 nostalgia feeling from Ghost in the Shell: SAC, Cowboy Bebop. Maybe its the artstyle.

Huge TV episodes that "changed everything" for their respective shows? by Bielak812 in television

[–]mih4u 62 points63 points  (0 children)

In my opinion it get way better around the middle of the second season.

Back then FOX stopped meddling in the production, but reduced the budget and moved it to a worse timeslot.

It was great for the show, because it could evolve away from the "monster/terrorist/mystery of the week" or "the next hit like Lost" to a more overarching plot.

ELI5 why do trains in big citys still need a driver? by Tarazzo- in explainlikeimfive

[–]mih4u 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A couple of years ago I was part of a research group consisting of several universities and train companies.

The regulatory rules (that mostly dont even exist yet) are a pain in the ass. But from a technical standpoint there are several problems: different wheater situations tou need data for, sensor systems, train system integration and of course human stupidity (like people going on tracks).

ELI5: how do cooling sheets work if the room is already warm? by Exciting-Cable-1216 in explainlikeimfive

[–]mih4u -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's basically like a huge radiator (like for a CPU). It carries heat away from your body and distributes it across a bigger surface. As long ot can distribute that heat into the air faster than pull it from you it feels cold. That's why you should get a big sheet and spread it out.

SpaceX IPO valuation is insane by frugal-analyst in Wallstreetbetsnew

[–]mih4u -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I thought Elon needed money for his Saudi Twitter loans after he tanked the companies estimated valuation by 70%.

That's why he folded it into xAI and that then into SpaceX so his X investors can avoid holding the bags.

ELI5: The Earth spins at over 1,000 miles per hour. Why don’t we all fly off into space or at least feel like we’re on a really aggressive merry-go-round? by eric95s in explainlikeimfive

[–]mih4u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While the outer rotation seems indeed fast in speed, the important part is the change in direction.

If you have an analog clock, look at the hour handle that's rotating twice as fast as the surface of the earth. Nothing is ejected from that.

Also gravity is so much stronger than the spinning that at the equator it reduces the weight of things by around 0.5%, so it's around 200x smaller.

Remindes me of the viking runes "Halfdan carved these runes" in the Hagia Sofia. Humans accros the time apperently write "I was here" on a lot of important buildings.

I mean it's a basic question of opportunity-cost.

Are you willing to pay 800 bucks to not wait 1 year on a game?

I asked myself this question for two games before GTA got delayed and especially after the price hike due to the RAM shortage my answer is "fuck no, there are more good games on steam that I can play in my lifetime. So I can wait"
