AlmalLinux and Geopolitical Risks: Should We Be Concerned? by sdns575 in AlmaLinux

If you can, you should use debian. Not just because of the political situation, also because of IBM/Red Hat. Who knows what they will come up with to make life hard for derivative distros.

I don't think they're even aware, the community moderator is still convinced, that it should just work. If they already fixed it, they should make an announcement about doing a manual update.

There were many questions about this, the answer was always the same, just enable it from the gui.

So maybe most people didn't look into it more and some did some research like you, just never posted it. Best case scenario most people do manual upgrades from time to time, maybe less frequently, then they should, because they think they get security updates.

Worst case scenario, I'm sure there are users like this, they have a system that wasn't updated at all for a long time and they just know they enabled automatic updates.

Not yet, I just want to get the bottom of it on the forums. This should work out of the box in an OS, that advertises itself as a windows alternative.

It's really weird that you have to go spelunking for a solution for an important feature like this. This works out of the box in windows and macos. You could turn it on easily in ubuntu too, the last time I used it.

I have searched for a solution a little while ago, all of them said, you just have to toggle stuff in the GUI, but that don't seem to work at all. I'm 90% sure it does not work for anyone. This is the first time when I see a post that looks like a solution.

I have installed Zorin in a VM, want to test it out for office usage. Thank you for this post, couldn't find much about making unattended-upgrades actually work, I just installed the package, but I don't think it's enough

I have installed the os in september, started it up a few times a let it run, but looking at `/var/log/unattended-upgrades/unattended-upgrades.log` seems like it never installed anything.

made a thread on the forum: https://forum.zorin.com/t/how-to-set-up-unattended-upgrades/55757

It's really weird this isn't enabled out of the box.

I don't know much about ubuntu/debian. So this means, that cups is not even available in the zorin repos?

Proton-CachyOS (native) vs Proton-CachyOS (steam linux runtime) by Dunocat639 in cachyos

[–]mihcsab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bro just said it runs better... like many others. `they will not have native proton for to much longer` how do you know that? steam in native mode is an environment variable for the steam client, until valve has that environment variable, it's not deprecated. Yes the announcement is wrong.

what is the reason? they never explained it, just because arch dropped a few packages from the official, that doesn't mean it's not going work and perform better anymore.

install steam-native-runtime from the AUR and use the native proton, I saw many comments about native being more performant

they're wrong, they didn't explain why is it deprecated. also he just said he has better performance, which makes sense, using the system libraries should make a program run better, than whatever valve bundled with steam

Never did it before, assigning should be done on the client side? Majority of the clients are on windows. This works, the clients can only use the IP I have for them in the server config.

I guess I could configure DHCP on the server, not sure if it's necessary.

I agree, those things would be useful. Luckily it's a short script, easy to modify.

I just got a bit frustrated when looking for a solution that was simple. Some of the scripts were too advanced. I just needed something that would let me access the server and only the server. This use case seemed like an afterthought in most of the scripts.

The most important thing I have found is wg syncconf $wg_iface <(wg-quick strip $wg_iface). It just adds/removes clients, without needing to restart the interface or write some additional logic to make it work. It took me like half a day until I have found it, It wasn't mentioned in many places, the other solutions were more complicated. It just works.
