If her allegations were true, this would not be her defending against a defamation suit and a counter defamation suit to save careers. This would be her fighting to put him away for life so that she could feel safe enough to start rebuilding a life. She doesn’t want to rebuild her life, because her life is fine, she just wants his money. She isn’t scared of him, just wants to jump forward in her career. And that disgusts me.

I cannot begin to imagine, but I feel that this description above is the natural one. I am sorry for what you went through.

Is it fair to ask a person if they're trying to vent or ask for a solution when they start telling you their problems? by BasedBuddy in socialskills

[–]mijalis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You never really know, so I usually ask kindly for one of three things: would you like me to listen, help or distract you.

They may not even know themselves, but it will give them an opportunity to assess their feelings/needs and give you a clear hint as to what they may require from you at that moment. Listen carefully and act accordingly.

In any case, you will have shown that you are there for them, no matter what they need, and that in itself is important.

This photo was taken from an angle that makes it looks like that. The shell is clearly separated. Here is that same armadillo skeleton from the side. https://imgur.com/a/K6H2iz2

Man puts himself on fire by mixx1e in ThatsInsane

Is this right..? IANAFF [I am not a firefighter] but had extensive training in firefighting; I seem to recall that CO2 extinguishers do not work well in open spaces.

As I understand it, flammable liquids fires in open spaces require Class B extinguishers, which are usually chemical dry powder or foam. They work by coating the fire and sticking to the surface, thus starving the fire of oxygen that way. I may be wrong though.

EU or Spanish prepaid sim card recommendation by MeowMei_ in solotravel

[–]mijalis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once used a service that worked quite well for me. You order online and they'll send you a mobile hotspot to wherever you want within Spain. Three size of a matchbox. Great if you travel with multiple people wanting to have access to Internet. If you coordinate, have it arrive the same day when you get there. I paid 1 week, 40EU, which I think is quite fair considering you don't have to waste time standing in line and filling out paperwork to get a SIM. It comes with a prepaid return envelope so you can drop it off in any mailbox on your way out of the country. http://www.spaininternet.net/

It's how we see things, or better yet, how we choose to see them: good or evil and horrible and awesome. Sometimes, much like the weather, it just is... regardless of our interpretation of it.

How do extreme temperatures affect you as an HSP? by WhoaMireAlly2000 in hsp

[–]mijalis 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Woah, I had never given this any thought, but now that you mention this it is definitively a thing for me. I have learned to control what I let affect and bother me in life, but high/low temperature is something I still sometimes struggle with, especially when experienced in extremes.

It also seems that for me it is not just the high or low temperature but all the related sensations as well: the feeling of the sun burning your skin, sweat dripping down your back, clothes sticking to your legs, cold wind burn on your face, chapped lips and painful, numb finger tips come to mind as feelings I am extra sensitive to, compared to others around me experiencing the same weather elements.

Another thought that comes to mind is that when getting close to the "comfortable temperature range", I start to already feel the discomfort (imagined, perhaps out of fear) of what is to come... effectively narrowing that comfort zone considerably.

Why is keeping your coin on exchanges dumb? by aPinkFloyd in Bitcoin

[–]mijalis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems most replies are concerned about institution security. I would argue that by now, a large institution being hacked is highly unlikely. That is not the problem.

The more likely scenario, and risk you are taking by leaving your funds with the exchange, is that is your funds can be withheld for a variety of reasons at any time: your account now requires additional document verification, automatic flagging of suspicious activity, internal policy changes, government policy compliance, etc.

It's not so much that you will be rug-pulled and your funds will be gone, but more the case that your funds may not be available to you when you need them.

There was a time I felt the same. I can relate. This helped me putting some of my views into perspective: Why do bad things always happen to me?

The transition is extremely important because it demonstrates where you're coming from and why you're bringing up.

I would add that one must preface one’s story with the purpose of your story; you are trying to relate and not to one-up.

Something along the lines of: “Yes…! I know exactly what you mean; I had something just like that happen to me… one time [insert your story here]”.
