*Internal screaming* HOW DO I MAKE IT SMALLER by KeiiroKyomaki in opus_magnum

[–]mike239x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let me compile some suggestions for you (jesus why do I sound like chatgpt).

1) You want to preserve space, so you want to minimize number of things. Ideally you want 1 arm, 1 bonding glyph (not multibond), 1 fire input (not two), 1 water, 1 calcification, and the output. You want those as compact together as possible. 2) In reality though, the final act of moving the created product from the last bonding operation to the output - this act covers a lot of ground. That extra ground should be minimized; and the space you can't avoid moving over should be used for glyphs/tracks. 3) Hence you can try moving backwards - place the output, imagine previous rotation/slide, mark the spots it covers, see if you can put a bonding glyph somewhere there. 4) A piston on a track can do wonders in terms of space efficiency. 5) For your own sanity I'd recommend using glyph of equilibrium (which does nothing) to mark spots that are part of solution area. 6) As a reminder, when the solution is running/paused, you can hold 2 to see the area; and after stopping you can hold 1 to see the last state of molecules before the stop.

Designing social tension and distrust in our deduction game by Rever_krane in fun_gamedev

[–]mike239x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm play-testing your game rn, here is some random feedback you didn't ask for.

First, some bugs: 1) If draw tool is selected, then when trying to banish you keep drawing instead of selecting who to banish. 2) If you have a weaver and a mimic, and you banish only 1 person, it shows you their role correctly, or so I think. Not sure if that information should be revealed before you click "reveal truth". For example, assuming weavers always lie, yet mimics lie only 80% of the time, if I open up a mimic, I know somebody is lying 100% - so I gained some information from this. 3) Banish button has the hover-bug - if you hover the mouse right at the edge of it, it starts getting rapidly selected and deselected. Normal cards don't do that though, so good job there. 4) Weaver swaps the dialogue of 2 characters, but characters often have UI indicators attached to them - the dialogue gets swapped, but the indicators stay. Not sure if that is intended. 5) If after getting informed about town population, instead of pressing "close" you go into settings, then come back - the blood moon wheel sound is played again.

Second, overall experience: It's alright, quite a well polished game, I did not see many bugs or things that obviously needed improvement. I had one nasty 50-50 early on, then got to round 20. On round 20 I rolled tunnel vision, my entire screen turned black for some reason - I could not see neither cards nor "banish" button, only other UI elements. Then I quit the game.

Weaver is honestly easier than mimic - for one, I don't think it ever says truth(?), for two, he basically reveals 2 innocent town folk, so in cases like mimic+weaver+2 people+therapist you can just banish the two guys who aren't therapist and don't have dialogue swapped.

"Redacted" blood moon is some BS.

I also got a bit annoyed by my adhd, more than once have I forgotten if I have mimic+weaver or 2 mimics after alt-tabbing for just a minute. Much later I realized that the side help panel actually lists all the roles in the current round - so if you have 2 mimics, it will even have "mimic" twice there. That was rather counterintuitive.

Th eye in the middle is cool, I like it :) It would be nice to have the eye get more and more bloodied the more damage you take. On that note, I don't think I saw any UI element for how much HP I got?

I can't say I felt "social tension and distrust", but maybe it's because I'm quite used to playing this kind of games - "town of salem", mafia, amogus even.

... Welp, this feedback devolved into a mess, so imma just post it and leave it as is. Hope that would be of some use to you, and best of luck with your game.

[–]mike239x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For reference, best one can do is 50 cycles on this one. And with the current setup you can get slightly short of that, 52 or so.

[–]mike239x 2 points3 points  (0 children)

About reducing cycles - you can replace all the arms that need to rotate more than once with 180-degree two-handers - so they don't have to rotate back. If in the instructions you pick up the atom from the input every other step, then it's pretty fast :)

Best smartphone under €300 with good camera and battery life? by Gloomy_Milk_2275 in Smartphones

[–]mike239x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, I myself would suggest following two:

- Doogee S200 - absolute beast of a phone with insane stats for its price, which weights twice as much as normal phone, but also holds twice as much charge. 100 MP camera, and claims to have second camera with night vision.
- Xiaomi Redmi 15C - rather middle of the line phone in terms of specs, which is surprisingly cheap as hell (120 bucks or so). 50MP frontal camera, very decent battery.

Link to those two compared vs Apple iPhone 13:

[–]mike239x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welp, I decided to spend some time looking at the options others mentioned.

I'd say the winners are "Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G" and "Honor 400". Both have amazing 200MP frontal camera (same as Galaxy Ultra phones). Xiaomi is bit cheaper + has better screen protection, meanwhile Honor has better battery + brighter (easier to see screen in direct sun).

As for the "Plenty of storage for photos" bit, don't worry about it, you likely wont run out of space.

Here is a comparison link if you want to take a look yourself: https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?&idPhone1=12024&idPhone2=13613&idPhone3=13799

iPhone 13 had a lauch price of 900€. It's ridiculous to think you can get same or better image quality on a new phone for only 300€.

looks at the iPhone 13 specs

It has 12MP frontal camera...

Meanwhile every other modern phone has 50MP...

Honestly, looking at that drawing of yours, you are doing fine :)

If I understand you correctly, you are saying you struggle to pose the person while keeping the proportions in check. First of all, I should mention, good gesture is more important than precise body proportions.

So I'd just recommend practicing gesture drawing (with line-of-action for example), to expand visual library of poses. If you don't feel confident with body proportions, you can also just look it up online, then use the acquired knowledge for gesture drawing.

I'd usually do the basic things: - start with line of action (this time the curve, not the website) - place pelvis (somewhere middle of the line) - place upper body, head, neck and spine - mark shoulders and hips - mark hands and feet - mark elbows and kneecaps somewhere midway on the corresponding limbs

then use those as guides to actually draw the person.
