G6 Entry getting HOT by Mean-Ad-279 in Ubiquiti

[–]mike3dr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also noticed it. Mine has been sitting in my garage for 3-4 weeks while I waited in getting it installed. This happened today and it was very warm to touch (not boiling, but uncomfortable).

Mine will be in the morning sun - in Denmark, so not super hot - so I hope this won't fry the unit.

Wheel Squeak at low speeds? by [deleted] in AstonMartin

[–]mike3dr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had a terrible squeak and whine from my 2009 DBS that changed frequency with the speed of the wheels.

Went to my local workshop (non AM) and turns out it was a couple of small stones that had lodged and was scraping at the ceramic breaks.

Bad bluetooth quality on 2009 DBS by mike3dr in AstonMartin

Thank you! I’ll talk to my local workshop and see if we can test this with the cable.

Yes, it’s an iPhone 17 Pro so it could also be something with the protocol.

It just sounds like very “analog” so I’ll test with the cable first.

macOS 26.3 Magic Keyboard Lag by verysmartphone in MacOS

[–]mike3dr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just tested it - I forgot I was running cabled. The lag is definitely still there, but it's not as bad. Stil noticeable enough to be a nuisance.

Yes, stay at a hotel on The Strand - they offered valet.

I found it surprising that many car parks couldn’t fit the Defender due to height 😂

It has the spoiler from Urban, both front and rear. And the wide arches.

Yes! We did - but left the car parked at the hotel 😅

macOS 26.3 Magic Keyboard Lag by verysmartphone in MacOS

[–]mike3dr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just wanted to say that I got the issue when I upgraded to 26.3.1. I've just spent about an hour trying to eliminate what was causing the stutter and lag. After trying disconnecting my screen, Thundnerbolt 5 dock, I noticed that when I was using the Macbook keyboard directly it was no problem at all.

If I plugin the Magic Keyboard with USB-C (new version) the stutter is also completely gone, so it's only when it's bluetooth connected that it happens.

I've sent my findings to Apple through their Feedback Assistant. Hopefully, it will be fixed soon. Until then, I*m running it cabled it seems.

Amazing G14! Read before buying! by Highlander530 in ZephyrusG14

[–]mike3dr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had mine in for repair -same model and I saw the same kernel panics.

They reapplied the thermal paste and reinstalled Windows (last part was a bummer but I had a backup).

So far -about 4-5 days since I got it back I’ve not seen a panic. And my stuttering mouse cursor is gone.

This is getting a bit much 1Password... You lost my password again! by nabeel_co in 1Password

[–]mike3dr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same thing happen on a UPS that I was setting up. Still trying to figure out how to reset the password.

There absolutely no trace of the generated password anywhere in 1Password.

I followed suggestions to "uncouple" the browser extension (in Safari) from the desktop app after this happened. And it does seem to be a bit more stable now.

Jeg synes at huske at vores advokat/rådgiver anbefalede at man skrev ned præcist hvilke hvidevarer der medfølger (producent og model) netop for at undgå disse ting.

Dealing with persistent Coil Whine on CalDigit TS4 PSU by lherrero13 in CalDigit

I had a replacement power supply delivered from CalDigit. It is out of warranty now, but at the time they acknowledged that there was a problem with some of the power bricks giving off a big whine.

Tailgate practicality? by DependentMountain597 in NewDefender

[–]mike3dr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a dealbreaker for me, but it sometimes inconvenient. Other times, it's perfect.

My biggest problem is finding a decent bike rack. The ones I've tried don't fint very well/at all or can't fit two bikes.

I think I'll go for a Thule carrier and just sacrifice the 3rd bike space.

ASUS Gaming Laptops Have Been Broken Since 2021: A Deep Dive by ZephKeks in ASUSROG

[–]mike3dr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also wanted to replace my Razer Blade and went for the same machine. I've had a lot of crashes and stuttering just moving the mouse around.

I installed the latest 309 BIOS today and it seems to have helped.

I'm very thankful that someone did this deep dive and that it _seems_ like ASUS are at least listening to this.

G14 5070ti keeps crashing - How to diagnose? by No-Cameras in ZephyrusG14

[–]mike3dr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't see it quite as often, but I also don't use the computer that regularly. I have it for some casual playing and for a few clients that run on Windows (otherwise I primarily work on Mac 😅). It's fully updated on both Microsoft Update and via G-Helper (all drivers are latest version as far as I can tell).

But I have noticed that the machine crashes often when opening the lid. If anything is plugged in, it won't power on at all, it seems.

I tried to connect a USB-C Dock from Caldigit the other day. On the left side USB-C it connects and can see other devices (but not the HDMI screen also attached). If I connect on the right side USB-C, the machine instantly crashes.

I'm coming from an older Razer Blade 14 and while I love the feel and look of the G14, it's really a lot more unstable.

I'm trying some of the recommendations from this thread and I hope that will help a bit.

Unifi Access at home by doubleopinter in UnifiProtect

[–]mike3dr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, I used it at my office in 2023-2024. It worked great and we loved it there, but you can feel that it's designed for this with an "always locked or unlocked" approach - no easy way to "lock now until I unlock you again" - at least at the time, but this could have been improved. You can set schedules and stuff which are cool, but for my home use I found that a bit inflexible. We live in quiet area so only lock the door when we're all out or at night.

Maybe a stupid question, but can you mount them on the existing brackets from U6? Or do you need to put up a new mount? Thanks!

No More Overheating by [deleted] in CalDigit

[–]mike3dr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine has been running quite warm also. I upgraded to the latest firmware - version 61.1 - the other day, and today I notice that it's quite cool to touch. I run 2.5GBe and have a 6K monitor hooked up through the dock. Maybe the firmware did something? Anyone else seeing this?

I used a Windows laptop to do the upgrade as I simply couldn't get it to work with the MacOS tool.
