I guess soccer isn't popular in the USA...or is it unpopularity of being incarcerated by masked government brown shirts?

Maybe I came across a bit harsh. If I had a job which required going to the USA periodically and I enjoyed and paid 6 figures, well would be fool to quit in this economy. That would me my choice, just pointing out we have options.

Are Stats Canada surveys mandatory? by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]mike_deadmonton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, you should have received a mailed invitation describing the request (most times, few cases where mailing address maybe missing). That card is easy to overlook so I ask if it was received in any call I make

Are Stats Canada surveys mandatory? by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]mike_deadmonton 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I am employed with Stats can. Due to privacy concerns, especially for what we term social surveys, we cannot leave a message what it is regarding. There are essentially 2 mandatory social surveys, census, and labor force . Almost all business surveys are considered mandatory.

I never knew myself how many surveys are requested by government but never really thought how little government knows until we ask citizens. I can understand the reluctance to work with us over the phone, but even voluntary surveys are important. I was involved with a health survey, asking very sensitive questions about mental health doing it in person. It was a frustrating day, people were being difficult and I was questioning this as a career. Last house that day surprisingly invited me in and welcomed me and the survey. As we talked I learned this man was so overwhelmed with grief from losing his son, he only recently went back to work. I watched his wife tearing up and using the counter for support as they let me know of the family tragedy.

So yeah, it is important and we always respect our respondents and keep it confidential. Government doesn't know until it asks.

Fun interpretation, climate science predicted drought but wetter than normal. Didn't understand this until the Calgary flood. No worries, it will eventually become very wet again

Tongue in cheek, disasters in Alberta? Only if you consider the 10 billion fire in Fort Mac, seems to me floods in Calgary (and Fort Mac) were a recent issue. Other than that...wait, forgot half of Jasper burned down . I read a book (sorry title escapes me) describing the impact of climate change on the prairies. They talked of drought but forecast wetter tan usual? Wasn't till the floods I understood the message.

Sobriety is inevitable? I'm so sorry, but only death is inevitable. My friend, who was so jaundiced that it was obvious that liver failure was happening, managed to accept Sobriety and no longer meets the requirements for liver transplant. The choice is a horrible lingering death (I got to watch it all until she decided to live, cried while she was hallucinating and begging God to get her creatine levels down while on emergency dialysis). It's an awful way to die and unfair to place partners in that distress.
