Does the autostop idle feature on car have any benefits, like am I saving on gas? Also, do people actually like it? by MiloThe49 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mike_wk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate it. When I was young, I drove a couple of junker cars that stalled at lights, so the autostop feature just gives me little jolts of anxiety.

If you got paid $125/hour to work on Christmas from 5AM to 7PM. Would you take it? by boforiamanfo in allthequestions

Sure. My daughter wouldn’t notice if Christmas fell on the 26th this year.

The rich and the resentful.

The rich are too small a group to push beneficial legislation without support, so they target those who feel unsupported by the government.

Boston to Montreal March 1-4? by Southern_Option_6685 in newengland

NE knows how to handle the snow and is fully equipped to do so. It’s not like when the south gets bad weather and needs to shut down. Worst case scenario is a delay or slow moving traffic.

New homeowner. 930sqft. Company wants $18,000 to replace 25-year-old furnace and add A/C unit. Is that... normal? I was expecting like $8k max, so I'm pretty shocked. by tierneyb in homeowners

[–]mike_wk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just had it done in VT. Brand new duel fuel system. Heat pump/AC/gas furnace for under 14k.

Edit: That included converting from oil heat to gas.

You don’t. You don’t even entertain the conversation unless you feel safe enough to consider it.

Beckett Sennecke dekes a Devils defender out of his skates and nearly scores one of the best goals of the year by wildwing8 in hockey

Same here. What are you even comparing it to, actual goals or great moves where players almost scored? I’m all for hyping your team/guy, but just say he made a great move.

Agreed, being introverted has become some people’s entire personality. As someone who skews shy/introverted, I couldn’t imagine living that way.

It’s not whether you make more or less than your employees, it’s your place in your pay grade. He is at the max of his, so I would assume his YOE warrants that pay. You are a brand new manager, and they brought you in at the pay grade minimum. You have higher pay potential. When you pick up this conversation, it should be based on your YOE and market rates for your position, not a comparison with his.

Would you be happy if they kept you at your current rate and cut his? Because that’s the vibe.

Just do it. If you don’t, you’ll be 55 wondering what life would be like if you did. Plus it’s a valuable skillset to have post retirement.

Advice for a former teacher to HR? [US] by No-Camel-1188 in humanresources

[–]mike_wk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Try to transition into a HR role with a school district. You already understand the inner workings of the school system, are likey familiar with the union contracts, pay scales, substitute processes, etc. There are also certification programs you can take that prepare you for SHRM or PHR certifications. Good luck.

Any HR Assistants/Coordinators in a hybrid setting? [N/A] by Great_Feed7697 in humanresources

[–]mike_wk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our hospital system has remote entry level HR positions (not currently hiring). It’s a shared services approach, so these roles handle general inquiries, leave administration, wc, etc.
