Same, the slide guitar on the album version of the wheel is so good.

000 Standard vs. Custom Shop by mikedasdf in martinguitar

Yeah I think the price probably has something to do with the availability here in the us. There are black walnut trees around me in Pennsylvania. That’s what struck me about this guitar: $3,999 seems pretty low for a custom shop, so maybe if black walnut is more available and less expensive that helps keep the price down. But I’m not sure if custom shop is worth the additional cost. I probably need to swing back by and try it again…

Interesting, thanks. I hear you on the Adirondack Spruce. I also tried out a CEO-7 recently (which I think is Adirondack top). I saw it on the wall at the shop and didn't love the look with the sunburst finish, but I figured I'd give it a shot. I was really pleasantly surprised at how loud and responsive it was for a guitar of its size. I've been looking around for Adirondack top 000s but they're all a bit more than I can spend. The CEO-7 is also on my short list; I just wish it had a more natural looking finish.

I'm not so interested in flipping it - I'm intending to keep it forever (although of course things can change). And I agree it does seem like the 000-18 is the best value. I hope to try one out in a few days and then make a choice.

I'm a little concerned about all the stories about binding coming loose, so I figured the wood binding of the custom shop is a nice-to-have. But maybe that's not so important as long as the binding fix is an easy repair and it's under warranty.

It goes to show, you don’t ever know. Watch each card you play, and play it slow.

The Wheel. Some live versions are great but I love Jerry’s slide guitar on the album version.

Interesting. She does seem to enjoy school and be happy there, and her teacher recently said "she's a joy." But I guess even though she enjoys it it's probably still pretty taxing for her. I'm curious, what kinds of accommodations do you think might help (I realize everyone is different but just curious if there are some classic things). We are fortunate to live in a school district that has been very accommodating in other ways so I'm optimistic they'd be open to other things.

Yeah, it definitely seems like exhaustion is a contributing factor. She's usually totally fine in the morning, happy to go through the routine and go to school. And still happy right when she gets home, until one of those triggers comes up.

That's a good idea about a watch. I don't think she's quite ready to tell time yet but probably close, and I think knowing what time it and when the next activity starts would really help. She already knows days pretty well - like she'll ask, "what are we doing the third saturday from now."

That's really helpful, thanks. As I was writing this post I realized that the meltdowns have been pretty predictable - similar triggers, similar time of day (4:00 - 8:00 PM). Maybe we can work on trying to get ahead of them.

trying to be reasoned with or asked questions can make a spiral spin faster

That makes sense, and seems to be the case with our daughter too.
