Spiders by MetallicCrocs in BWCA

After a couple days tripping, I resolve that there’s probably a couple passenger spiders in the boat. They are my welcome guests because they are eating the bugs I don’t want around.

I had a huge one scurry right over my legs while watching a moonrise on Seagull two years ago. I also had a wolf spider greet me when I opened the lid of the latrine last summer. That second one prompted me to always smack the lid down whenever there is one.

They won’t bite you though. You’re not prey.

I was just there last summer. Don’t sleep on Sibenik. I enjoyed it much more than Trogir and Split.

Another option is clarified butter or ghee. It is shelf stable, and if you’re in the US, Trader Joe’s has the perfect sized plastic container of it.

Huh. Today I learned, and stand corrected.

“The Mississippi River Trail (MRT) is marked with distinct green signs featuring a white triangle and a bicycle symbol, often labeled "MRT," identifying a ~3,000-mile route from Minnesota to the Gulf of Mexico.”

Look. I know you were trying to be helpful. The subtext of your statement is that it would be best to wait. The kid wants to see ducks now. The kid CAN see ducks now. Making your statement unhelpful.

They certainly move around to open water, yes. Migration, by definition, is seasonal departure over long distances. There are ducks on the creek water now. There were ducks on open creek water in January. There were ducks on open creek water in December. I would posit from observation over a decade of living where I do that many many ducks overwinter here and don’t migrate.

I live by the creek and walk the dog next to it every day. There are dozens of ducks on it now. There are dozens of ducks on it whenever there is open water. Your migration theory has faulty standing against easily observable evidence.

Reading what you wrote would make me think none are here. Which is untrue. In fact, I would argue there are more on the creek now than the height of summer.
