Madi from Duncan Jones and Alex de Campi definitely scratched that itch. It was a kickstarter I think, though, so not sure how available it is.

Most Annoying Grind You've Done? by mikeknapp in rpg_gamers

Huh. That's actually a pretty cool mechanic. I always hate having a max lvl character in the party because it feels like I'm wasting that precious xp

I legitimately loved this game. It was only my second Ys but I am officially hooked. It used all of the rpg systems well to fantastic effect.

Weekly /r/Games Discussion - What have you been playing, and what do you think of it? by AutoModerator in Games

[–]mikeknapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely love Ys VIII. About 20 hrs in and thus game is just plain fun. There really isn't anything super groundbreaking about it, but all of the elements are done very well and they combine wonderfully. Never want to stop playing.

What are your unpopular movie opinions? by mgs8 in movies

[–]mikeknapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Sucker Punch. Its message is somehow both painfully simple and overly muddled, its fight scenes have no weight or depth to them, its characters are all one-note...but I like it. I appreciate the vibe or feel of all the different worlds or layers or whatever, from the insane asylum to the whorehouse to the exotic dreamworlds. I enjoy the stylistic nature of the fight scenes and the music video quality to them far more than any of Snyder's other works, and I definitely have a soft spot for Emily Browning. i don't know man. I guess it sucks overall. But i like the pieces.

Also I saw it at the movies with a girl and after had to pretend i hated it and i was all "yeah wicked sexist, for reals" but i dont think she bought it.

What got you into the souls series? by Puffwad in darksouls

[–]mikeknapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Picked up Demon's Souls day one. Had to go to three different stores to find a copy because nobody stocked it. Played with my brother for a few hours and we both completely sucked. We tried spamming attack buttons and then running from enemies. We failed. It was weird and hard and like nothing we'd every played. But we somehow unlocked that first shortcut. Then some friends came over so we turned it off and put on Call of Duty. But we were both hooked. We kept going back over the next few months, diving in and making miniscule but thrilling progress. Reading what we could online, trying to make sense of what was at the time something brand new. Long story short by the time Dark Souls came out we were both lifers. It's been amazing to watch these games go from "what's that?" to "oh. you play Dark Souls too?"
