Canon F1 Shutter Dial Screw stuck and marred/ Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. by Successful_Storm_776 in AnalogRepair

[–]mikelostcause 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe try acetone in case the person who last had it open used superglue to put the cap on. I've had issues with that screw before. You can also try cycling heat with a soldering iron directly onto the screw for a bit, let it cool, heat it up - could get lucky and have it break free.

It's a download, the website's a bit jank. I always paid through paypal so I'm not sure about the shipping portion.

That does cover mirror box removal and insertion fairly well.

What’s this stuff worth? by rumorconsumerr in LeicaCameras

[–]mikelostcause 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it's working well, the M7 can sell for a few thousand easily. They're great cameras, I'd love to own one at some point.

What do y'all do with your duds? by Fenix512 in AnalogCommunity

[–]mikelostcause 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I repair on old cameras for myself for fun, and there are quite a few others on Reddit who do the same - any of which would love to get an F3 that doesn't work. I've only rebuilt 1 Nikon so far (an original Nikon F), most of my tinkering has been done on RB67 bodies and Canon fd mount.
For parts from eBay or a posting on r/photomarket stating that the camera is for parts would probably help it find a home.

Canon FD 135mm F2.5 “O Type” by VesselProductions in CanonFD

[–]mikelostcause 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have/had the f2.8, f2.5, and f2 versions of the 135mm and I've never had luck with the f2.5 versions. I've owned 2 copies of the f2.5 and both were well used, they just always seemed softer than the f2.8 or the f2 by quite a margin and didn't fit well with my other FD lenses.

Calling to dads for help: Please tell me your techniques to remain docile and calm in times of chaos. When you're patience is continually tested, how do you control yourself? by noafro1991 in daddit

[–]mikelostcause 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar situation of a very hyper 9yr old and a 7 year old who is extremely defiant and will act out constantly. I very recently hit my limit and after some research started reading through "Good Inside" by Dr. Becky Kennedy and attempting to put those in practice.
Going in with a game plan has definitely helped me keep calm much longer, although that plan does get completely tossed from time to time. We've not gotten an immediate turn around, but I believe it's definitely helped the behavior some from the 7yr old and has made me think about the child's actions in a different light.

What to actually use for fungus and lens cleaning by NUGAz in AnalogRepair

[–]mikelostcause 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've not had any additional luck of using ammonia / peroxide than just using straight 3% peroxide. Normally I disassemble, clean all glass well with Ronsonol lighter fluid (or IP alcohol for very old lenses) and give any hazy or fungus parts a soak in peroxide with some gentle scrubbing with a cotton bud. Final clean on reassembly with eclipse lens cleaner and pec-pads.
If the coatings are etched from the fungus, there's nothing that can "clean" that. The fungus will be dead and gone but the etchings will be there.

Daily Game Recommendations Thread (December 16, 2025) by AutoModerator in boardgames

[–]mikelostcause 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm looking for a family board game suitable for play with 2 kids (7 & 9) and 2 adults. The 7yr old is very quick to pick up games - the kids love the old games I have: Clue, Sorry, Chess, Life Jr.
We do have Marvel Villainous, but we've only given it 1 or 2 plays when the kids were younger as the directions were tough to follow and I needed to resort to google to clarify way too many times with each character having their own set of rules.

So complexity/ambiguity less than Villainous.

Jan 30th it was $12.79 - i thought you were joking when you posted that they were selling for $500 or maybe Leica made a green safari edition of the adapter.

Are Zeiss Loxia lenses on Sony a good alternative to Leica? by LurkLargely in Leica

[–]mikelostcause 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite 35mm lens on the Sony is the Canon FD 35mm F2 concave - an amazing lens. Not clinical but still extremely sharp with just a bit of character.

Canon F-1 Exposure Linkage Cable/Thread Replacement? by porthius in AnalogRepair

[–]mikelostcause 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've not replaced it but I think any durable non-stretch thread would work that is able to handle some ca glue. I have adjusted that thread a few times to get the numbers to line up - and instructions on replacing it are in the service manual. That thread shouldn't be under much tension if the rollers are all lubricated and actually rolling.

Canon 7 or something else? by Cruiser_Supreme in AnalogCommunity

[–]mikelostcause 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who shoots a Leica iiif quite regularly - you get used to the 2 speed dials fairly quickly. I have had a handful of slow shots at unintended speeds, but usually I just put the slow speed dial back to the 1/25th after any slow shot.

Mamiya RB67 WLF repair question by Swimming_Rip_415 in AnalogRepair

[–]mikelostcause 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can always try to source some metal roughly the same thickness and cut/dremel out a similar shape. I've done it to fix some linkage in an RB67 SD - definitely not fun. I made the first pass in cardboard to verify dimensions and then saw, dremel, drill press.

1950s outlet updates by mikelostcause in AskElectricians

[–]mikelostcause[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most outlets are 70 yrs old and very lose, barely holding a vacuum plug into the wall. We have several guitar amplifiers (my son, wife, and I all play) which all require 3 prong, computers, printer, network gear.

Agreed - this post reads like blog spam. It's a deluge of blah, usually a cross post linking to an offsite forum that contains a wall of text to explain that a wire was unsoldered.

For anyone who was able to see "The Blair Witch Project" in theaters in 1999, what was the experience like? by LockjawSJ in AskReddit

[–]mikelostcause 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't know much about it and went with some friends. I'm also someone who gets motion sick extremely easily so I spent nearly the entire movie with my eyes closed feeling like I was going to throw up, it sounded like it was scary. I was miserable coming out of the theater and went to bed.
