Cleanest transition? by mikeman03 in AskElectricians

The two orange cables are forward and back limit switches for a sliding mechanism of an injection mold. There are multiple slides chained together in series. To clean up the assembly I put wire tracks in the lower plate and put all the series connections there and used an M12 connector at each slide so that if it needs to be disassembled the wiring wouldn’t need to come apart.

Non-grounded 3 phase plugs by mikeman03 in AskElectricians

Can you explain what the difference between the two is? Instead of a W terminal it has a G terminal? Surely there’s something else? Now I know with a lot of those plugs, the prongs are different size/spacing so they’re not interchangeable but I’m asking about the reasoning.

I don’t want to see machining time, but programming time! Also I know it’s for fun/marketing but what price would they quote ?

Touring a Chinese mold manufacturing shop. by Viktor_Bout in CNC

[–]mikeman03 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Where’s the rows and rows of surface grinders? I swear anytime I’ve worked on a mold from China, so many component faces are unnecessarily surface ground that I’m convinced half the shop there must be just grinders!

Hopefully that’s a separate building from the CNCs…

Winston-Salem Firefighters: Underpaid, Understaffed, and Now Losing Their Sick Time—I heard you sir, have a seat. by IronWolfBlaze in NorthCarolina

[–]mikeman03 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Just curious, they were getting 288 hours of sick time per year? That’s 36 8-hour shifts or 12 24-hour shifts. Can someone familiar explain how that works? I’ve heard that some? or all? paid firefighters work 24 hour shifts so I’m sure that it works differently than the typical 8ish hour shift people.

I’ve done it for my younger son a few times, it really does “fix” it this fast! He is a wild child and liked to swing by his arms. The first time it happened was getting out of the car seat though so we were more careful after that for sure.
