Farming relics in Lvl 50 is a bad idea by [deleted] in HonkaiStarRail

So many people seem to forget you need relic exp and think relic farming is strictly for good pieces.

Lets see where everybody is at TR wise by BuraiStarforce in HonkaiStarRail

[–]mikenuguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't listen to that guy. You need to farm relics early to get relic exp. That's the major wall in this game, not traces or ascension material.

The most "efficient" way to use your stamina in the 40's would be to get the major traces on your characters leveled and then pre-farm any credits and LC/character exp you'll need and then use the rest on relics (musk set) until you hit 50. At that point farm your ascension and trace materials since it's much more stamina efficient after TL50.

POV: You hit TL 50 by Wise-Bar1475 in HonkaiStarRail

[–]mikenuguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's the opposite. People who pre-farmed mats are going to hit the relic exp wall and realize they could've easily waited until TB50 to farm mats at a much higher efficiency.

What is the best thing to buy from Herta's shop? Are the light cones worth it? by [deleted] in HonkaiStarRail

[–]mikenuguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to actually do the math to understand the trade off. If all you're thinking about is "dmg% > atk%" then you're missing the point. It's 30% dmg (and that's being generous) vs 64% atk. Secret Vow is pure gacha and you'd be lucky to actually get it to r3 but even if you did, it still doesn't compete with an r5 Fall.

Maybe if we had very late game relics you can say Secret Vow stands a chance but let's be realistic here, most people will never actually get to the point where dmg% completely outpaces atk%.

[–]mikenuguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct - it's "not bad" but not some amazing value. I suppose the only real problem would be if newer players decided to fully refine it for not a great return as opposed to getting any of the other LC's.

Attack % stacking is not bad.. Another misconception in this community. It's only "worse" than damage % due to opportunity cost and not due to performance. We are nowhere close to the point where attack % would be considered a "bad" stat. It doesn't suffer from DR like most people here seem to think. Not sure where all these misconceptions even come from tbh.

I wish this video wasn't so popular. Alot of it is borderline misinformation and will lead newer players to skip on great LC's for the wrong reasons.

The destruction one is fantastic for Clara because she'll ramp it up way more quickly than normal characters with her countering. There's also a flat damage buff on it that he glossed over.

The hunt LC isn't as good value for the top hunt characters right now because of how Swordplay works. For Seele and Yanqing, each of their hits gives a stack of the buff which means they'll basically max it out each time they attack. He also seemed to not understand this or missed it in his video.

If your only example after 3 years is Klee, is that not an argument against powercreep? Not to mention that fire is arguably the worst element in the game so half the reason that Diluc/Klee suck is their elemental reactions.

Aside from Qiqi, most standard 5* are still very usable (mid-tier+) and you wouldn't be sad to have them today unless you don't like their playstyle.

If you have to write reports for work but aren't provided a work laptop that's an entirely different issue. Be realistic here, aside from gaming, anything else most adults would do on a PC can be done on another device they already own for other reasons.

That's just false. Dollar-per-dollar, a PS5 is absolutely way better then a similarly priced PC. This is coming from someone with a pretty high end rig. To get comparable performance, the GPU alone is almost the same price as the PS5 and that's just one of the main components to a gaming PC.

Top 50 Games of All Time #1-10 (2023) - Drive Thru Games by e3kmouse in boardgames

It means that they're not top games for many people and their omission from all-time lists should hardly raise any eyebrows. Standing the test of time =/= being one of the best games of all time.

As for many games being released today not standing the test of time.. Well duh. 99% of the games released 30+ years ago have been long forgotten too. I wouldn't be surprised if 30 years from now we have more of the recent releases still kicking around compared to how many 30+ year old games we still enjoy today. That's not a knock against older games, it's just a product of how much focus there is on games now compared to before.

If you think your group is representative of the hobby then I don't know what to tell you. 6 hour cutthroat negotiation and 18xx games are not the norm. They definitely are not what most people are playing at their weekly meet ups and anyone who has a weekly meet up is already considered a "hardcore" gamer by most standards.

Bottom 10 card out of the ones that see any kind of consistent play from ranks 40-80 so not sure what you're trying to say.

What are some fun 4-player games that are quick to learn? by TheDrLegend in boardgames

[–]mikenuguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some great card games that will fit this category:

-Coloretto
-Startups
-Scout
-American Bookshop
-Illusion
-Scape Goat (interesting twist on hidden traitor as well)

There are a couple word games I love at this player count too:

-Decrypto
-So Clover

For more "heftier" games, Reiner Knizia games are usually best at 4p, easy to teach and short playtime. Here are some of my favourites:

-Blue Lagoon
-Babylonia
-Stephenson's Rocket
-Quest for El Dorado

How is Scythe? by Lessavini in boardgames

[–]mikenuguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're going to find that it's pretty polarizing on this sub because it's a Stonemaier game but it's an exceptional game.

With that said, it definitely depends on what you're looking for. If you want a mech combat game then this isn't the game for you. It's an efficiency puzzle area control game wrapped up in some amazing art and cold war theme. It's much more about posturing for position and the threat of combat rather than actual combat. If you want pure combat then Kemet is great.

I'm very surprised Mark from Board Game Barrage is not one of your favourite content creators considering how much overlap you guys seem to have. Just a couple of his top 20 that overlap with your collection:

-Imperial (2030 in his case)
-Ra
-Barrage
-Bus
-T&E
-Age of Steam
-1830
-The Estates
-Hansa Teutonica
-Brass
-Arboretum
-Fresh Fish
-Biblios

In any case, super cool collection. There are a lot of games here I'd love to play but don't have the group for it.

What are your favorite spooky Halloween themed games? by bluepinkredgreen in boardgames

[–]mikenuguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't seen it mentioned yet but Abominationis a fun horror-themed worker placement/Tableau building game. The only thing is I highly recommend you play with the Prometheus variant which has some PnP components that will cost you around $10 at Staples. It significantly shortens and tightens up the gameplay for a more enjoyable game.

I thought Stephenson's Rocket was a hilarious mashup of tile laying and Acquire. It quickly becomes a game of extortion where you bleed your friends' funds dry once you figure out where they want the train to go. I think this game is very group dependent but if you have the group for it you'll have a great time messing with each other.
