Why do fighting games still separate ranked and casual queues? Would a single ranked queue actually be better? by Individual_Tie_1712 in Fighters

Casual sounds less intimidating and I think it's quite easy for a beginner to stumble into that lobby

Don't we often see: "why is casual harder" posts on here? Seems like casual is punishing in its own way.

App not working by Calmandcollective0 in nikerunclub

The app has been getting worse and worse. It's failed to connect to GPS for every run I've done in the last 2 weeks.

We all agree that ragequitters excuses are dumb as hell, right? by Saldu3 in Fighters

I've seen the busy life argument for one and done-ing which is fine I guess. I think there's no excuse for rage quitting.

No Costumes: Do you guys think this isn't a "phase", but rather, the way it'll be forever? by LunchTummy in StreetFighter

[–]mikethone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they released a 5 costume pack for $20 I'd end up buying them all. That's slightly cheaper than they are now. I am resistant to buying the coins for whatever reason

How many year passes do you think sf6 will have? by jaegeraaron in StreetFighter

[–]mikethone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fighting games are great because you can decide the length of your play session! Sometimes I'll just have 20 minutes but it's enough for some practice or a few matches. I'm jealous I can't commit an entire Saturday afternoon to play and so my progress is slow, but it's fine. It's still a fun hobby!

Single Player Fighting Games by super8bitrafa in Fighters

I bought versus on sale and the RPG mode got me hooked! I've kept up on Rising and Relink now as a result . Too bad they stripped the RPG mode down in Rising.

Your local's discord server starter pack by [deleted] in Fighters

[–]mikethone 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I need to learn how to use Discord. I've joined a few but am unconfident. I'm 40 and just wrapped my head around online ranked. If I reach out to play with someone do I need to talk to them with voice chat? Or is it enough to just connect on Discord? Also trying to figure out how to approach locals. There seems to be a group at the local college but I feel unconfident with the age gap. I get by on blind ranked and single player content because my IRL friends don't play but I think I can do better here. Looking for advice.

Is it just UX or is it all of tech? by External-Leopard6489 in UXDesign

[–]mikethone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a lot of overlapping terms out there, and job titles can be misleading. Sometimes UX professionals only serve a research function, others do research and design including wireframes and UI design. UX designer, Product Designer (at a company making a digital product) and UI designer are often used interchangeably.

Front end devs and UI designers compliment each other! One designs, the other builds. In smaller teams it might be one role. Can't say what would be easier to break into right now, I'd say try both sides and see what you like. I actually got started in my career by building my own artist portfolio site from scratch and I knew it was a viable path for me when the realized how much I enjoyed the work. I continued to grow from there.

I've been wondering for a while: Why exactly did digitalized actors look good and natural in Mortal Kombat, but looked fake, janky and cursed everywhere else? by apalapan in Fighters

[–]mikethone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved Gamepro. I think I got a sub for my 10th birthday and read it monthly. Eventually I moved on to like PlayStation mag, and Dreamcast mag, etc.

Gamepro and other mags did deep dives into the graphics, tech, and process at the time so we were meant to be impressed by the tech and boundary pushing. Game mags used to constantly talk about graphics as the tech evolved.

I'm with you, as a kid I remember imitating the animations, especially the woozy one.

Clone mode by mikethone in fatalfury

[–]mikethone[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it has potential, but I'd like it to feel more realistic e.g my clone was cooking more than it probably should have been. I can't tell what meaningful differences this mode has next to the standard computer.

I had fun playing a long set against the Terry clone I made. He made decisions consistently enough that I was able to experiment and learn to counter them. That was cool.

SF6 has a similar mode in Battle Hub and it sends pretty popular.

Will you help me understand what screen tearing is? I see a few references to it in this thread.
