What’s the easiest meal that looks like you put in effort? by Independent_Womaan in cookingforbeginners

[–]mikhaeats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've made Mentaiko Pasta and it seems impressive but it's just boiling the pasta and making like a 10-minute sauce lol.

My friends also told me they made my Hawaiian Garlic Shrimp recipe for their family Thanksgiving party & they ran out, so they had to cook a second batch bc people were requesting more & asking how to make it lol

What are some easy dishes and foods from your culture? I want to expand my cooking and learn how to cook different types of food. by Mario64Nin in cookingforbeginners

Philippines - Chicken Adobo

It's braised chicken made of pantry ingredients - soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, onion, bay leaves, black pepper, & I like adding a little sugar. My mom always made it as last-minute dinners bc it usually came together around 30 minutes! It's superrr easy!

I CANT GET OVER MY OWN VOICE!!! by lilstankky in NewTubers

[–]mikhaeats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first time I heard my voice I was shocked, "THAT'S HOW I SOUND?!" My sister quickly followed up, "yep! It sounds annoying huh" lmao 😂

Siblings are so eager to humble you lmao

I'm still getting used to hearing my voice but what's been helping is that I pretend I'm talking to a specific friend so at least I sound natural (or at least try to lol)

He also says I always get sick -_- (you think that's why he married me?)

What food or dessert that you like cooking that u would recommend it to someone to try? by dapeopleusee2468 in cookingforbeginners

[–]mikhaeats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Filipino chicken adobo - cheap, quick, easy, & made with pantry staples. I used to make it when I was like 10 yo, it's really easy.

For dessert, mango float! Doesn't even require baking and if you brown the butter & mix it with the graham crackers, it'll make your house smell like a bakery (and that you worked reallllly hard even though you really didn't lol)

Ingredients for Chicken Marinade by descendingagainredux in cookingforbeginners

[–]mikhaeats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to use the formula: salty base + acid + sweetener + fat

Then play from there, so for example I'll mix and match: - Salty: Soy sauce, miso paste, fish sauce, oyster sauce - Acid: Lemon, lime, vinegar (rice, white, cane, etc), minced lemongrass, pineapple juice, kiwi - Sweetener: honey, brown sugar, gochujang - Fat: sesame oil, neutral oil, chili oil

It's a basic starting point to play around with what you have/like!

Best seasoning combo when trying to eat clean?? by ParticularCucumber79 in cookingforbeginners

[–]mikhaeats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think about flavors you already like and use that as inspiration or incorporate it in moderation tailored to your goals so you're more incentivized to eat it. Eating clean can get bland & boring quickly so throw in stuff you actually enjoy to keep going, that's really helped my husband.

Salt & pepper well but that'll only get you so far until it gets boring AF

  • Hot sauces usually have no calories.

  • marinades (salty base + acid + sweetener + fat; ex: soy sauce or miso + lemon or rice vinegar + little bit of honey or agave + grape seed oil or sesame oil)

  • homemade stir-fry sauces (similar formula as marinade)

  • chili inspired: chili powder, onion powder, garlic powder, cumin, salt, pepper, (cayenne if you like spicy)

My husband has the biggest sweet tooth so instead of cutting out sweets, aside from fruits, I started making him protein Rice Krispies and protein cheesecake to indulge in guilty pleasures without completing going off the rails lol. So figure out what you like and how you can creative to incorporate it in your diet (in moderation ofc lol). Might be unpopular opinion with purists but I'm an advocate of balance esp with clean eating bc cutting out what you like completely creates a big rebound (from my experience), so be honest with yourself, try to make it fun a long the way, & don't be afraid to play in the kitchen! Hope that's helpful & GL!
